I want to create one. The few pictures I have been able to find show me that for my next build, This model fits the bill. Anyone have links to other photos? I did see the upper in the carbine part sticky. Anyone have one they would share pictures of? Or perhaps share experiences with a Colt 727. Thanks

MSG Charles Chase in the 90s with either a 723 or 727.  Sadly, he died in a training accident in 1997.

More here.

Perhaps Augee will pop in, he knows a lot about 727s.

727's had A2 sights. That's a 723.

ETA: Check out the old school tac vest. What scope is that?

Oh, I thought 727s came both ways.

ETA - I think I confused myself because both were called an "M16A2 Carbine".

I don't think so. 723's had either an M4 or ltwt barrel, were both C7 and regular 603 upper as far as I know. If 727's existed with A1 uppers, what would be the difference?  Just wondering. I've certianly been wrong before.

Check out the Surefire 6A - or is it a Maglite?

I think it's a mini mag light mounted to the barrel.

I'll be using an A2 upper and a 14.5 Colt M4 barrel with a pinned extended A2 flash hider, I think...

That sounds right.  If you don't already have the barrel, CMMG makes a nice 14.7" M4 profile barrel with a permanently attached A2 FH.  It's what I used on mine (sadly, I mistakenly ordered the "ban compliant" option, which is why there is no bayonet lug).

Also, if people start hassling you about posting in the retro section, all you need to do is stop using the term "727" and start using the term "BHD clone".

Because the 727 is listed in the stickies in this forum, with an A2 rear sight

In Ekie's carbine parts thread? The one that has flattop M4s?

A2 isn't retro. A4 isn't retro.

Too bad for the OP, I sold this 727 build kit a couple weeks ago.

I have the correct Colt A2(dark gray) upper with factory receiver cuts. Colt lower with Colt guts. Correct 6 hole Colt carbine hand guards. On the way is a Colt M4 barrel, BCG and charging handle. What I lack is the Colt two position receiver extension, nut and pre M4 buttstock. Almost there.

You weren't supposed to see that.

ETA: Is it me, or is that a flat slip ring on that carbine?

Like I said, stop saying "727" and start saying "BHD clone" and everyone will be cool.

I think some 727's used a1 lower receivers which would make them legal in this forum.

Vest appears to be standard Grenadier Vest with either home-made pockets or pockets taken from the SRU-21/P Aviator Survival Vest

The first photo looks like a 723 with a .625 barrel to me, but it's just a guess, since you can't really see the barrel profile, but the size of the gap between the gas block just makes me "think" .625 when I see it.

Mini-Maglite with hose clamps and old-school Aimpoint to round it off.

The RO727 seems to be pretty "stable" compared to the RO723, the only real variation being A1 or A2 forging for the lower.  Otherwise, step-cut .750 barrel and A2 receiver with feedramps.  Some evidence that "late" 727s, post-M4 production had double heat shield handguards and M4 barrels rather than 700-series barrels.

You'll be really badass if you do an early FF rail clone like the thread below.
