Hi guys. Anyone know the closest match current production bayo for a 601 build? Im going to ask JT to paint it for me. Thanks all. |

You can get Dutch M1 Carbine grips, but they are too short. Ontario M7B bayonets are close, but need fill work and paint. That's about it. I can work with the Dutch grips... In the picture below, those are Dutch grips. There are three problems with these. - It is pretty labor intensive because to make these shorter grips work, about a 1/4" section of the shank has to be cut out, then rewelded back together (perfectly square). - Another problem is when you shorten the shank, the bayonet will not clip in place. It is long enough that it can be positioned on the barrel for display, but it won't work for it's intended purpose. - The third problem is the screws and nuts do not come with the Dutch grips, so you have to sacrifice them from your M7 bayonet handles. One bonus with using the Dutch grips is they are pretty cheap... around $15, and they are the real-deal bakelite. A second option is the previously mentioned new style Ontario bayonet. They look pretty good, there is one less groove around the circumference of the handle (5 not 6), and to make it look as nice as possible, there is some artwork embossed on the handle that requires some time to fill and smooth. Click HERE to see the Ontario bayonet. A third option is to put the brown mottled finish or "601 green" on a pair of regular checkered M7 grips. I finished a set for someone on the forum, and they actually came out pretty neat looking... nothing like the original bayonet, but they did look nice. Let me know if I can help you out, or if you have more questions, John Thomas [email protected]

wow that came out awesome. Nice work. How did you mark the blade paint or ? Quoted: You can make the 601 bayo out of the standard AR bayonet, but it may be more than you wish to get into. I filled the handle with JB Weld, smoothed it out, marked where the grooves were to go, and used a rat tail to cut the grooves, air brush with 601 green. I also purchased a set of grips made by Postino(sp) that looked much better than mine, but mine finally won out ...cause I made em. The screw heads are exposed on the opposite side , I was going to dress them down and fill in with JB Weld but never did. The grooving could be made sharper, better, and all that but just takes more time. For me it was a one time project for myself, and all it was going to cost was a set of grips. http://pic40.picturetrail.com/VOL294/1488357/23921541/399091455.jpg http://pic40.picturetrail.com/VOL294/1488357/23921541/399091439.jpg http://pic40.picturetrail.com/VOL294/1488357/23921541/399091426.jpg |
