Hello All,
Will a front sight base marked "F" work with an A1 upper? I think the A2 front sight base is to tall, is that right? |

I saw someone posted a A1 upper with a F marked FSB and were asking why they had to run the sight post down so deep into the cavity.
F marked are taller so it will work if you can crank the post down deep enough. If you have to install it I'd say go with a non F marked base but folks that REALLY know things will be along in a bit to tell you more. |

First post! I agree to avoid a "F" marked front sight base with the a1 upper from my experience.
It is my understanding that "F" marked is for an a2 detachable carry handle which sits a little higher. Case in point, I took a 20" DTI non-chrome lined pencil barrel and put it on a spare a1 upper. I did not pay attention to the fact that it was a "F" makred front sight base. Everything was fine, passed all the function tests, everything lined up great –– until I went to sight it in. It works and shoot properly. But I had to work the a1 front sight post way down to get it on target. I do not like the sight picture and have learned my lesson. Seems like most of the front sight post from the online dealers (and my local gun stores) are "F" marked these days. In contrast, I borrowed a 16" heavy barrel from an a2 Oly arms upper. I transplanted the barrel and the non-"F" marked to another a1 upper and it worked like a charm. So, yet it is do-able, but the front sight post will be lower than if you used a non "F" marked front sight post. YMMV. |
