Thanks...I wonder if the Colt factory ever used full fence A1 lowers with these uppers. My intent was to create a 1968 M16A1. It sports a Colt 1-12 CMPC barrel and a Type D stock. Wonder If I need to get an XM lower now? I see the upper receiver as being round forge, right? I think that upper receiver with a CMPC barrel and full fence lower are correct for a 1968 603. I know there are variations on the shape / size of the arrow and "R" forged by the sight wheel, maybe someone else can narrow down what year it was made from that. The slip ring looks black, going by the upper guide that could / should be correct too. (upper guide) Just out of curiosity, what color is your charging handle? It looks very dark almost black. ETA: It looks like 1968 could / should have an early bend gas tube too. |
| yes its gray! I got a BLEM XM Gray NDS-A1 lower and then hit it with steel wool till it matched the older upper. Turned out real well! Took a while and alot of shoping on the EE for parts. The barrel started out on a 604 upper which I removed and put on the current XM16E1 upper. |

I just bought a Martin Marietta 603 complete upper on the EE in gray and was wondering what the match would be to an NDS XM Gray.....if it looks like yours I'll be happy. Enjoy that beauty! |
