| What do I need to look for in an upper that would have put on a hydramatic gun from the factory? |
| Retro black rifle forum has a nice page on other manufacturers M-16's including hydromatics. Basically look for casting flash on the upper. These complete uppers do come up from time to time on the EE. Finding parts has always been a little hard but most the hydromatic small parts and furniture have a number or letter on them. There are also some good threads here on AR15.com if you can search archives. |

Apologies. Was thinking about H&R uppers and small parts I'm getting feeble. We don't see a lot of hydromatic clones here. Will have to increase knowledge base. Thanks for correction Tex. Probably be a nice retro build OP complete with engraved lower. |
| On pages 18 and 19 of the Real Deal picture thread there are pictures of real Hydra-Matic rifles. It might be worth asking the guys that posted those pictures for more information. (look for forge codes and proof marks in case uppers were swapped out) |

(Snip) You'll want a CMPC barrel. Um, No. GM barrels are marked with the MP between the FSB and a C near the muzzle just like Colt and H&R barrels of the period. Quoted:
Do not Hydramatic barrels have weird forge codes on their front sight bases? Mostly yes, usually a number code on the right side and a letter code on the left that may be upside down. Example 18 (right side), upside down F (left side). Wpns Man |
