Someone wants to sell me an SP1 with serial number of 08151 and says it was made in 1965. I tried to look at the serial number guide but I can't figure out the date of this rifle. Is this worth $1500? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+1. Are you including the "1" from "SP1" in the serial number? If so, according to this database, that gives the rifle a manufacture date of 1979. If the serial number is indeed 08151, then that gives the rifle a manufacture date of 1966.

A few ways to tell if it is early is the flame supressor.  Early (1964-65)  should be duckbill style.  Later in the 1970's would be the M16A1 Style that looks like a bird cage.  Early would have a grayer appearance as well.  The early probably would not have the trap door stock and the later would.  The 1964-65 would probably also have the lightweight edgewater buffer.

No trapdoor in the buttstock
Edgewater buffer
Divots
Slick side parked bolt carrier
3 Prong flash hider

Probably a couple of other things to look for. Gone blank.

Condition is the key to how much a SP1 or any rifle for that matter is worth.  If a low serial number and excellent condition then it's probably the going retail price.  Seen some less and seen some more.
