Is there a source for these? I searched for existing threads and only found OLD ones.
If not, how much do vintage Colt tubes go for if you can find them?

Also, were the originals xm gray or shiny black? I have seen both...

No.  When found for sale they are usually with a stock body, and go for maybe $75-ish and up with a fiberite stock or $300+ with an aluminum stock.

You have to find them used. EE or Pawn shops. I still don't have one.  They will run $75 to $120.

Looks like I need to go through my used parts stash...  I had some I tried to sell years ago and nobody wanted them back then

Almost grabbed one at a local gun show.  Guy was selling a fiberlite stock with a two position tube for $40.  I asked to take the stock off and he said no, so I took it off anyway as I was in the process.  Apparently, he wasn't aware it came off as easy as sliding it.

Of course, it was a four position tube.  I explained it to him and then he explained to me that it was a two position tube as there were only two positions between the ends.  I said thanks and that I was looking for a zero position tube.  He looked at me funny as I handed it back to him.  So now I look for zero position tubes as well as two position ones.  HA!

HA HA Fig! That's hilarious.  Couldn't you tell it was 4, er. . . 2 position just by sliding the stock back and forth and feeling the lever?

Sure, but I wanted to look at it.  I like to look at everything.

<chuckle!> That was a good one; way to dish it right back to the gun show "experts".

Don't worry, I'll have a 10 barrel before too long.

Really nice Texsquirrel.
608 I presume?
Did you make that stock?

The 608 is one sweet rig.  Me not being a purist, mine will be an inspired version.

I'm envisioning the smoothness of the NDS-32 upper, a carbon fiber handguard on a 10.5 inch barrel with a Gemtech Trek (titanium) or Surefire Micro.  Haven't figured the stock yet but maybe the Ace Arul.  Might use a 10 round mag and cut the stock even shorter.

Sure do love the 608 though.

That there is riffel length!

ETA - and I thought I was the only one that appreciated the perverted ugliness beauty of the 608.

The 608 is SBR'ed.
Actually I received my tax stamp in May of last year.
But I still don't have a 10" barrel for it.
...although a 10" barrel is already in the works.
Next is to make a more authentic looking handguard and endcap.
The Colt 16" barrel in the picture ended up on a restored SP1 carbine.
Now the 608 sits in the safe looking like this:

I actually think it looks pretty cool.
Something like this would make a cool movie gun.

Oh, and the stock and flash hider are from Unclemoak.

I think the 608 is ugly.
But the 608 is like the girl you knew that you thought was ugly the first few times you saw her, but then after knowing her a while you decide she is kinda cute in some strange way.
It must be the 608's personality.
The 608 is so unique I really wanted to build one.

I always thought it would be a neat idea to find an ejection seat survival case and foam it out to fit the (2) 608 halves.

The link below is one for a T-38.

Here's one from a 1964 F-106.  Just the right time frame.

might want to see if you can find a YHM lightweight stock...that's what I have for my 608 inspired mid length biuld

I'm thinking an Armalite fiberglass mid-length free float tube and a Brick moderator modified into a slipover will look close to this

and just to be different I'll use my modified A2 grip

When you get that thing finished, yank the trombone flash hider, put on a three prong and weight the gun. I'm betting less that 5 lbs., dry.

Oh man!  I'm jonesin' on that Yankee Hill stock.  Damn!  Why'd you have to show that to me.  I know that's gonna be impossible to get!

I'll definitely weigh it.
The freefloat tube is a bit heavy right now.
Hopefully I can come up with a more authentic looking, and lighter, solution.

Damn.
I've been gathering parts for almost 2 years while planning to one day build the "World's Ugliest AR In The World."
I'm talking things like a fluted barrel with AK-style flash hider (thanks, Morg308) and a DuoStock, and a custom gold-green-purple camo paint job for use when the corn fields are mowed...

But what's the point, now?

"Ugly" has been done to perfection, and "uglier" may not be possible.

Mr. TexSquirrel, I tip my hat to you, sir.
That is perfectly ugly!

No, no...your first instinct was correct!  She's ugly!  She may have a great personality and be a great dancer, but it doesn't change the intrinsically, aesthetically offensive nature of her outward appearance!

Beauty may only be skin deep, but sometimes ugly is made outta solid steel, plastic and aluminum!

OK now let me ask, I'm familiar with two position tubes as being open or closed...Two positions...
Four position tubes are obviously open, closed, and two middle positions...

What I'm trying to find now is a youtube video I recall seeing of a guy demonstrating an old "two position" stock where he shows the stock closed, and then the "two positons" of half open and fully open!

Did they make THREE position tubes at some point, or were they modified sometimes to include an extra position, or WHAT?!

I did at one point last year have a commercial 3 position tube.It came with the EA stock ( mentioned in boywonders thread regarding his lot of unfinished stocks) that the former owner gouged out the inside of the stock in a half assed attempt to make it fit the 3 pos tube.Open, close, and one hole in the middle.May still have it around here somewhere

i had to plug the 3 middle holes and roll my own, until the correct one jumps in the boat.

I finally broke down and bought the Essential Arms car stock with two-position Colt tube Rtutah had listed.
Hope it goes well on my XM177E2.
