Need some help. I picked up a Colt SP1. The upper is is where Im having trouble. I know it has the wrong windage adjustment. My question is about the barrel. I only found one picture of a SP1 with the long handguards on a 16 in barrel. The barrel itself does not have any markings other than a 30 near the upper receiver. It has marks on it that look like someone replaced the barrel but the front site looks original to the period. The front site post looks like it has a R W on it. The barrel itself flares at the end. I'm also having a problem with FTF. I am thinking it might be the buffer spring. I can cycle a round manually but it wont eject and feed a new round. The gas tube is clean. Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a Colt SP-1 barrel to me.  It has rifle length handguards and barrel is only 16"?  Almost sounds like a dissipator barrel on a SP-1 upper.  Could be a couple reasons for FTF.  What ammo are you using?  Don't worry it can be fixed!

I am not sure what the dissipator barrel is but I'll look it up.How does that effect the value.  As for the FTF I used a variety from remi's to winchester. 45 gr to 75 grain. Plus  I used different mags. Same problem with all.  I spent a few hours at the range this morning. Even single shot it was fun.

The typical SP1 will be a 20" pencil barrel. Porbably stamped C MP 1/12. As for the single shot issue, see if the gas key on the bolt is loose or has a primer stuck in the hole.

Gas key is tight. No primer stuck anywhere.

Check your gas rings. Stand your bolt carrier group with the bolt extended on its end. If it collapses due to gravity, then your gas rings need replacing.

Gas rings are good. Could it possibly be the buffer spring?

Worn out extractor or weak extractor spring?

Those both seem to be ok. The bolt doesn't appear to even cycle towards the rear when fired.

I'm betting that it's an issue with the gas port. From what you describe, it sounds like you either have a dissipator barrel, or a rifle length barrel cut down to carbine length. If it's the latter, problems can arise if the gas port isn't the correct size.
