So after nearly a year my SBR went through. I took some liberties, I liked the dimple pins. and I was confused about the meprolight 21. I decided to keep the Trijicon because I really like it. This is my favorite rifle so far. the balance and weight are awesome and I can not say enough good about the  RX06 sight. I've been thinking of replacing the bolt carrier with a Colt one.

Colt A1 upper
NDS Blem lower
LMT bolt / carrier
ER Shaw 14.5 chrome lined barrel
RRA "Made in Israel" 6 hole handguards
Mottled grip
Stag/ CMT LPK
Heat N' Beat take down pins and selector, also many circle mag button
Zahal accessories
Trijicon RX06 Reflex on a RX10 mount
the stock is a cheapy plastic CAR (REPLACED with an M&A)

It wasnt attached to a hot IDF chick!!!

Looks very good, why change the stock? it adds that "Kosher" flavor - This thread needs a hot IDF chick though...

There, my good deed is done.

ETA - Dammit! Beat by mere seconds.

That looks outstanding!
Did you weather the lower at all?
2/5/2011 12:57:19 PM EDT
[#7]
Thanks for the positive comments.
I didn't weather any of it just carried the parts around allot waiting for the "OK".  Every thing has a real quality fell about it except the stock. I got the stock for free. It is about airsoft quality, It doesn't seem to be commercial or mil. spec. It wouldn't be so bad but the stock wobbles around on the receiver extension and ruins the feel. I was going to put a Colt aluminum on it but they have become ridiculously expensive. I ordered an M&A fiberlight CAR kit.

Got my own girl:

No extended FH. this puppy is NFA. that's why it took me so long. I no regrets about 14.5 inched, I love it!

That's about $100 per each tenth of an inch in length reduction.  But now you can do a 13"er from a cutdown 20" barrel if you like and have another authentic IDF configuration.

Beautiful carbine!  An IDF build certainly offers plenty of opportunity to set up the whole kit of correct accessories, which is the sort of thing I like.  I think it really rounds out a build to give it some context.  The only reason I don't plan to do the IDF treatment on my 653 build-in-progress is that if I do, then I'd feel compelled to also build or buy an Israeli .308 Mauser, and an Israeli FAL, and a Galil, and an Uzi, and an A1 rifle with A2 handguards and an Elbit Falcon sight, and...

Real nice carbine.  I like it.  Other pics are nice also.  Think I could swap some stuff around and come up with one.  I have some Israeli carbine HG's somewhere and a few mounts.  My dumb questions of the day.  What is the green cover on the HG made from and where did you get the sling?
2/5/2011 3:35:21 PM EDT
[#15]
The cover on the hand guard is a heavy weight elastic. 2 separate bands, bottom black top green. I got the sling and bands and other accessories from ZAHAL.  I have been thinking of a 13" upper.

here is the sight ZAHAL

Is that .625" at the gas block?  And if so, where did you manage to pick it up?

Not sure how I missed this - beautiful carbine! I really love the 12.5" barrelled version though. Since you have your SBR, I think you should build a 2nd upper...

Barrel is .625 at the FSB J&T has them. also a standard height FSB. the taper pins are straight though.  its 1/9 twist

What would be the visible difference between a 20" vs. a carbine barrel cut down to 13"?

The itty bitty step down in diameter at the front of the FSB seat, I suppose.

But on a practical level I couldn't fault anyone for using a carbine barrel.

Changed my Stock. the new one is the 2nd Gen. CAR stock on it now. The old one is the plastic knockoff of an Aluminum model. The new one is a tighter fit. but the plastic seems more fragile. Its probably a better quality plastic, I don't know. New tube and stock are "mil spec." not sure what the old one was I think it's in between commercial and mil. spec.

Added Rack numbers. I haven't seen an Israeli like this but I figured why not. I can remove them if I want.

I just looked over some of the pics and after visiting Israel in October I have to say barrel length over there is somewhere between 12.5 and 13.5.  Those rifles are short.  It's probably 13 as it looked like someone posted that number earlier but they just seem way shorter than 16 or even 14.5.

Yes, the real deal ones are very short. The IDF/KISS thread in the AR Discussion section here has some more actual IDF pics. I left mine 16" to avoid the extra expense of the chop plus the tax stamp.

Damn I love those photos of the chicks. Nice asses with an M16! What a country. If I had a chance with a girl like that I might wish I was jewish.  Speaking of IDF chicks, who has the photo of the two IDF girls doing the splits while their carbines are hanging from their necks? I had that on my desktop for the longest time then my puter crashed and I lost it.

When I did a conversion of the measurements our Israeli member gave us, I came up with about 12.5" not 13" but everyone says 13". I think it would be 13" with the flashhider mounted, which would make sense to me. Great pics guys! FWIW I kind of like that rack number on the carbine stock, correct or not.

Yeah that's what they looked like.  If I built one for my sbr'd lower I think the only thing that I would change is the limit to two positions on the stock.  It's definitely something that could be hidden but I would enjoy having more options on length of stock.
