Gents,
I have had all the parts for a 607 sitting on my gunbench. Complete built upper w/faux moderator, Stock, grips and correct style lower for two+ years. Here is the deal. At first I was going to Drill and pin it. Then I was going to use a receiver plate drill it and attach it like a Car stock. Problem is I don't want to cut a brand new buffer tube for the additional threads I need to mount it this way. I guess I am looking for advice. I have built a lot of ARs. I have also assisted armors in the function of building and repairing in the past. Call it OJT if you will. How hard is it to actually drill and pin the stock? Which way would you build this weapon? I am looking for opinions and advice. Yes I have read all the threads here multiple times on how to attach this stock. Thanks ERIK PS in a unrelated project anyone know where I can find a A1 stock for a shooting rifle. I have a rifle that needs a shorter pull. Thanks for any and all info/opinions |

I recommend drilling and pinning in the original way. It's not that difficult and looks more "correct". Drilling the hole in the back of the reciever with an end mill bit it easy, and so is the rollpin hole, just be sure to pad your drillpress vise and double and triple check that the lower is held level. The biggest difficulty is holding the TD detent spring in place while driving the roll pin thru the rod. RLR350 has addressed that issue with an ingenious (Why didn't I think of that?) tap and setscrew so that's no longer a problem either.

| I'll add 2 pennies here,I have modified a few 80% lowers to A1 configuration and was never at all intimidated at any time while working on them. There is no tutorial,no tool list and no instruction sheet,I just winged it so to speak.I feel the ones I did came out pretty damn good, and members have given me the big pat on the back and 2 thumbs up.When cracked kept posting his 607 upper,he just pushed me over the top,I HAD to do one.I was always extremely intimidated with the thought of drilling and pinning the 607 stock.I decided to "go for it".I did what you did, read and re-read any and all pointers from members, especially the one tutorial by Hal143 posted on RBR. I was amazed at how easy it really was, felt foolish that I allowed myself to be intimidated.I can't even add ANY other pointers to the mix as what has been written is very easy to follow.I can only say take your time, and measure twice,,and have fun doing one. |
