| If you had M1956 suspenders & period correct Pistol Belt for Nam which Mag pouches would you use (M1967 Nylon 20 round magazine ones or M1956 canvas 20 round magazine ones ) |
I'd use what I was issued. With the M1956 webgear, I'd use M56 stuff. I have M1967 webgear, thus M1967 pouches. Truthfully, I'm guessing you'd have seen a mixture of gear, especially if guys were scrounging extra mag pouches or canteen covers to use to carry mags. (LRRPs and SOG did this a lot.)

| Depends on what you're displaying. "Time period." I wouldn't use 67 pattern gear in a display with a 602. I would, however, use 56 pattern gear with a 603 from 73. The military rarely makes any distinction between newly standardized gear, and the old gear that is being declared substitute standard(or even obsolete). Therefore, the later you get in a war, the greater the mix of old and new equipment. The military won't throw out equipment just because it isn't what's currently being made. |

The canvas 20 round mag pouches were only made during one year, 1968, so actually from the same period as M1967. The longer "universal" pouches were much more common. Some rolled GI socks or two to three field dressings in the bottom of the universal pouches will shim the mags up to the top.
