Hey guys, just want to make sure I'm ready the data on my serial number correctly.  I have a Colt Sp1 with a serial number sp1506xx. The way I read it, it's a 1970's vintage. Is that correct? Thanks, Matt.

I am certainly no expert on the SP1s but I did a look up on the sites listing.  SP1 data base You indicate a 6 digit number which gives  a 1982 date.

Ralph

One thing that folks often overlook is the factory name roll marking.  It, in addition to numerous small parts changes and machining finish changes mark out the quick age determination.  Divides the 1980's and 70's out without looking anything up.
1965:

1976, note remnant humps at selector positions:

1980, note registration of the Colt name and its name change:

The 1 is included as part of your serial #. Your serial # is 1506##, not 506##. That is the most common mistake people make, assuming that since it is a SP1 that the serial # starts after the prefix SP1, when it actually starts after SP.

Mine doesn't have a forward assist or a shell deflector. Is that normal or has it been changed out? I've owned the rifle since the mid '80's
