Hey guys,

I have a colt SP1 carbine I believe it is an early 70's build, and I was looking for info on the colt 4x20 scope. Is this scope correct for a SP1 carbine of this year? Were the scopes any good? Are there any new models that would give the correct look?

thanks,
truckie

My understanding is the 4x20's are newer than the 3x's and they may have come on SP1s but I doubt as early as the 70s.  I have one that came with a 2nd-hand ColtGuard SP1, which is circa '82, but I can't guarantee it came with this rifle from the factory.
Quality of the scope is decent, but not outstanding.  Glass has a very slight yellow tint––an observation I've heard from other owners, too.  It's not enough to significantly distract me, though.
The integral mount works pretty well––locks up fairly tight.
The reticle is basic duplex crosshairs.  Simple, classic.
The range selector is marked from 1-2 (hundred yards) up to 5, but since my local range is only 200 yds, I can't say how accurate that is.
They came with a "bikini" style cover.  Nothing fancy, but functional. The elastic straps have a tendency to stretch out and wear, though.

In all, it's a decent scope for an AR with handle.  Looks a lot better on a retro rifle than an ACOG, at least!

Thank you for the info, I love the look of these scopes on the carry handle. I agree they look better than the ACOG on a retro rifle.

I was looking for one of these to get the right "look" but they are pricey. I know that the barska electro scopes have a bad rep but they seem to have the correct "look", anyone have any experience with them?

I've got one on my home PC––I retyped the original manual and used scans of the original graphics.  It's as close as you'll find in a PDF, I think.
I won't be there till later tonight, but if you send me your email address, I'll get it to you.

It ought to be close to the instructions at the bottom.

That's almost exactly what I recreated in a PDF, but a slightly newer version because it's labeled as being for the 3x and 4x scopes.
