I picked up a nice Colt marked 4x scope the other day on the EE and now need to know how to install it properly.  I just need to know how much it should be tightened down.  Does anyone have this information or can point me to a manual?

Remove the nut place the bolt down into it .Make sure you dont cross thread it. I usually tighten mine till the arm will only make one half turn and wont go anymore then go back til the hump on the arm goes into the hole. This should be good. You can also shim it to make it tighter.

From the manual...

"Mounting Instructions:
Wipe mounting groove in carrying handle of your AR-15 Rifle to remove dust, excess grease and oil.  Remove mounting clamp assembly from scope.  Put scope in position in handle mounting groove of rifle, dropping the protruding stud on scope mount through the hole in the bottom of the handle groove.  Replace mounting clamp assembly on stud and tighten until thread appears to bottom out.  Then back off to engage detent.  As two detent positions are provided, locking handle of the clamp assembly may point to either the muzzle or butt end of the rifle."

...in other words, what lafmedic1 said!

Yes, it was the $30 one.   Nope, not a Chinese clone scope, this appears to be a late 4x made in Japan or at least it matches the pictures I have seen of them and so far I can't find any markings other than the Colt logo.  Everything seems to work properly and it is very clear once I adjusted the ocular.  It was screwed all the way out making for a very blurry image, perhaps that is why it was sold so cheaply???  A range trip will tell me if my $30 was well spent or not. It has some wear, but looks great on my A1 IDF clone (aka somewhat beat up looking A1 with equally seasoned round handguards) Thanks for the info guys!

Man, if it's real, that's an outstanding score!

I didn't get a manual with mine either (it came on a second-hand SP1) but did find a poorly-scanned image of one online and replicated it in Word using the original graphics.  I have it in PDF format if you want it––send me your email addy and I'll send it along.
The manual, incidentally, is for "The Colt AR 15 Sporter Rifle Scopes 3X and 4X".

4 x is a late model but I had the early 3 model with colt on the top. If you got that for 30 bucks you better go do something nice for someone cause thats a deal!  Did it have the leather covers. BTW I sold mine for 150 recently and regret it .
