The weave is different than the standard M1 Garand sling.
Comments appreciated.

Some thing ain't right. If the tip is melted as it looks in the pic,it's got nylon in it,and not a 601 sling.Does the tip look more look it was dipped in something???The 601 is cotton and would definately not melt.

I concur.  Tag for answer.  I'm supposed to have a 601 sling, but the only authority I have that on is the guy who sold it to me said so...

How long does it measure from end to end.Another thing that bothers me is the amount of material there is from the fold at the swivel up to and past the stitching.

Material looks different from mine, different style weave:

Skychair,,note closely how Joefridays sling is.The very end is left unfinished, and is fraying slightly, also note how short the length of material is from the swivel bend to the end.. There is another variation that I'm still researching. The end is folded back towards the swivel, then the stitching is done so there is no exposed end.I have that version, but again trying to verify. What Joe shows is exactly like the original Black 1964 SP1 sling I have. This sling is part of my unfired in the box, sling never mounted 1964 SP1,,and measures the same length as 46 inches..My green one with the added fold is just slightly less at 45 1/2..

I have had two ,both were sligthly different from the other
One had the end material folded under and sewn the other was just raw edge and one was alittle shorter than the other
The stitching on the ends were both done differently
I beleive them to be originals as I had them for years mixed in with my Garand slings and I didnt even know what they were
Guess what I'm saying is I think you will find that they vary from sling to sling
As far as the one is question I really dont know. Never saw one with the end melted like that. I would be suspicious

Heres a pic of one the other was sold a year or so ago

+1 ^^^^ that's what my green one looks like, and exactly same situation.I was pulling out stuff for one of our living history displays and found it in with a bunch of other slings..

skychair, Right off I should say that I'm not sure if the sling pictured is for a 601. We (the retro hive mind) have discussed 601 sling variations before and there probably are some, but I don't know if there have been any actual conclusions as to what those variations are.  However, I do agree with M1sniper that the melted end makes me think that the material used in the sling you pictured may not be correct.

The 601 sling I have is just like the one shown above by Joefriday22. I bought it because it is just like the one Ekie bought for his 601 in this thread which has unfortunately gone into the archive. Ekie's photos of his rifle and sling are still up though. Nice rifle

I'm familiar with the folded and the un folded( I dont have one or the other just seen them) , the webbing of the sling is 45" long discounting any metal attachment at either end.
The trailing end is not melted but dipped. the feel is not nylon but cotton of a different weave pattern. It's the same width, but not as heavy as the common Garand sling.

The un-folded sling ends were dipped. Reminded me somewhat of paraffin.
This was mine at one time, but now resides with tgus.

Heres another I found in a pile of Garand slings. It has alittle different stitching and more material folded and sewn
