Hey guys, I went to my favorite local gunsmith shop today and picked up a bunch of cool items at good prices.I spotted this sling hanging on a peg with some other Garand slings. I would have never thought anything of the strap being sewn around the hardware had I not seen a picture of this type sling somewhere on this forum just yesterday.  Excellent condition too.

Any info on it?

Take care,
Rob

It's exactly 46 inches long from the tip to the fold around the hardware.

Tullahoma's correct––on appearance, at least.  Hold them side by side and the web "weave" should be different than a typical Garand sling.
Looks to be in awfully good shape.  If it's legit, feel free to make us all jealous and tell us how little you paid!

Yep,looks to be a 601 sling you scored.Congrats..I have been gathering info on slings,I have one of these, but there may be 2 variations.Where yours wraps around the sling swivel,is the very end of it folded back inside it'self then sewn or just folded and sewn? Does this make sense?Maybe look here and compare to mine.In the top right pic,2nd sling down.http://retroblackrifle.pullig.com/ Go to "military accessories,,slings".Please let me know as it helps us all.. Thanks.

Olgunner, I noticed the difference right away, it looks more like the military trouser belt type of web material.

M1, it does not fold back under itself.

Thanks Joe,,seems there is 2 variations,on mine the tip folds back towards the clip and then all 3 layers are sewn..Thanks for the info.
Tex,if you read this, you may want to post his pic to RBR.

I still really wonder what the origin of these was?! I seriously doubt Colt/Armalite had a "stitch bitch" division where they turned out a bunch of slings for the 601 as it was being delivered but maybe?

When we pulled the 601's unmarked from the crates, I never saw one of those types of slings. All we had were the later seatbelt ones so somewhere down the line they got ditched for the old M1 slings.

Well hell, I have had a 601 sling just like that on my 12 guage for years now. I never really knew what it was until I seen this. I checked the link and yes, its a 601 sling.

This seems like a story I would like to hear.
