I see stripped receivers all the time. So I have to ask , what;s the price To finish a stripped 603/XM16E1 receiver ?
Or maybe my question should be , "Is the upper receiver parts at PK firearms, original ?

thanks for the help guys, I'm 90% sure that a 603 is what I'm going to build.

One more question, Is the only difference between a  Type C and a Type D stock , that the sling swivel is coated ?

$450-1000
It depends upon what you're trying to build, how accurate, and how many original parts you want to use.
The parts kits available are actually later 603 M16A1 parts, but they're original.

Type C have a narrower area near the buffer tube/receiver.
It is a minor difference, but it all depends upon how accurate you want your build to be.
For my 602 I went with the Type C.
My early 604 and my 603 XM16E1 are built with Type Ds.
Some early Type Ds have parked/non-coated swivels too.

Some people are happy with Type Ds painted green on their 601s.
Some people use A2 lowers instead of A1s.
It all comes down to "what will you be happy with."
How accurate do you want your build to be?

I hope you mean 450-1000 for the whole Rifle.  I just meant replacing the missing  parts on the upper receiver . I saw  a stripped 603/M16A1 upper receiver somewhere yesterday. I'll have to see if I can find it again. I think it might be a darker color.
I was just wondering if the tear-drop forward assist at PK was original. I want to go with as many original  parts as possible.
There are 2 nice shows  here in Ohio that will have  the old M16 uppers and barrels. I see them every show, I just didn't have aMilatary  Retro interest at the last show. I have always loved old Colts though..

thanks for the help.

I think PK's A1 parts are DPMS

if you want GI parts your best bet is to look for stuff on the EE, GB, or RBR

here's the type of thing you're looking for

Another picture to show of the differences between a Type C & a Type D. Notice the bottom angle differences?

Thx for the PMS info.   I have been searching EE and GB  3 other places everyday.. Who is RBR ?
Hopefully I can just find a nice complete early (no forge codes) 603 upper receiver.

I can see now that the Type C's flat area is almost twice as long..

Thanks All for the help.

You should have seen the look on my wifes face when I told her tonight  I bought a 603 barrel ! that wasn't too bad, then I casually mentioned that I was going to build a Rifle out of it.. ahh it wasn't that bad

It's actually pretty hard to tell in person if you haven't seen both, and even if you have.  When I got my first type"C", I thought I had been screwed and sent a type "D".

Personally, and ignoring the color issue, I think the contour of the Type A is the best looking when installed on the gun. It's profile really stands out!

I agree that it is difficult to distinguish between the C's and D's...and the Late A's or B's or whatever. I get confused.

If you like that contour, you can get a gren or brown one and finish it in matte black Alumahyde II.  It will look just like new!
