Yes, that was a good deal. MSRP for those Tony's repros is ~$29 + shipping... Could you point me to them on the webernet? I thought it was a good buy too. $20 is definitely in the impulse buy territory for a funshow. don't bother going to Tony's website.....I ordered a set of both the carbine and a set of green rifle length from them 3 weeks ago and haven't heard squat from them since. they haven't answered any of the e-mails I've sent asking about the status of the order. absolutely terrible customer service if you really want some..... go to PK Firearms - bottom of the page |

Good deal! I got a set from Model 1 Sales for 30 bucks I think. Quality is pretty good, well made, solid. I am using them with a 16" DEZ Arms light weight barrel, an A3 upper receiver, and a railed gas block. Set it up with a MagPul CTR stock and a red dot. Came out pretty light and sleek looking. It fits the wife's hands real well, which was the whole idea.
I really liked the look of the full size triangle handguards but it seemed like old fashioned stuff for such a long time. Glad to see 'em coming back even if only for retro builds. The shorty versions are just fun, they don't have to be used for a retro carbine build. Have fun with them..... |

Talked to Matt last week at Ironwood Designs and he will be fabricating some triangular mid length sets out of wood. I will be doing my next build with walnut furniture including a 607 stock, A1 pistol grip and mid length triangular handguards. ![]() looking forward to seeing pics of this........when you get them next year

I just wish Matt would be honest about the expected delay.
After waiting over a year I found an unfinished set on GunBroker and jumped on it. My suggestion is to not pass over a set if you find it elsewhere. Of course Matt did update his website about 2-3 months ago. He also sent e-mails in September to people on his AR list saying he's going to start production and anybody who was in line will get a chance to buy a set...in a few weeks. He said October 1st he would start production. I'm still not holding my breath on getting another set. |

Can anyone post a picture (or point me in the direction of one) of these on a rifle w/ 16" barrel? http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w39/spiralseal/DSCN0028.jpg this one belongs to spiralseal Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm! I think that's what I'll build minus the 607 stock. (I'll aspire to that one someday......) |

I need to make it clear that I no longer own or control TSI so I can say this. The slip rings are done. Single rib slip rings that is. I saw them on the order form yesterday. Yes, he emailed me a little while ago that they were back from Victor and he would be updating the website "very soon". I got tired of looking for them, so I forgot until now. Damnit! Hope he doesn't sell out too fast... |

Does anyone make the shorty CAR-length triangle HGs - but with a round "snout" usable with the basic M4 front site? Thanks! nope..you have to remove the round handguard cap...I'm assuming that's what you meant by basic M4 front sight....and replace it with a triangular one |

Tim LaFrance made these, they are very rare. And they worked! Just double checked the Miami Vice episode. The M16 makes its appearance around the 24 minute mark and is later fired from a tripod mounted in a van. linkaroo |

Screen capture from an episode of Miami Vice: http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz50/arfcom2010/tringularM16-2-2.jpg Pretty sure it's from Season 3, Episode 7 "El Viejo" 1986.
I wanted a Lafrance HG cap so bad I made my own. I am rather proud of the accomplishment and look forward to making one that is an exact replica. |

Not to thread jack but I picked up a set of Nodak Spuds repro 607 HGs and they fit in my triangle retainer just fine but they dont fit in the d-ring? any tips? Those handguards are made by Tony's Custom Uppers, not NDS. Check the heat shields, I had a set that was hard to install because they were in the wrong sides.
Also, sometimes handguards are tough to get in the back end because they are a bit too long (or the front cap is located a tad to the rear). |
| I made a set of middie triangle hand guards. Butchered the first try. Second set looked good but not quite "correct". Next set should be about as good as can be done. Lot of messing around as there is quite a bit of production variation between factory hand guards. I haven't done too much research but it appears that with a few fixturing "tools", it would be fairly easy to do more sets. If there is any interest out there, EMAIL me. Maybe I can start a multi billion dollar business. Dave Brown in Lake Elmo, MN. |
