Well, a buddy of mine picked up one of the M16A1 kits thats floating around. Nice condition. He also go his hands on a Tactical Machining lower. As you might expect, the upper does not match well, the lower.

Below is his pic:

what is the best way to get these two to match up. Yes, he knows it's not an early style lower, but he is ok with that. It was a great price. I'm not sure what to tell him to try. His first thought was some Norrells Moly Resin, and just paint the whole thing. But I wanted to ask the hive their suggestions. He wants the lower to match the upper better.

Thoughts?

U.S. Anodizing

They are used for the NokakSpud lowers

You can send the upper and lower to US anodizing and Victor can match them. If you like the color of the upper, have the lower re-dyed to match. It'll take a re-anodizing fee, but the match'll be near perfect.

ETA: Beat me by 6 seconds!

I just had this in my "paste" for something else.  The third one down is USA's "Early Gray" or what Nodak and most of us refer to as "XM Gray".  The second one (or lighter) is called "Pre ban".

(NOTE:  The picture is from Nodak - not mine.)

Nice photo of the differences!  Thanks.

Does anyone know if Victor can do the original 601 color?  I believe it was a bit different than the XM grey––can someone confirm that?
My better 601 upper was arsenal refinished but I'd like to have it restored to the original color if possible.

Yes. He did my repro 601 upper, lower, slipring, original Charging handle, triggerguard, and mag button to match one of the original 601 uppers he has on hand. They're actually brown / gray.
