I am looking to build a 605 upper. Does anyone make a dissipator type barrel with a "thin" barrel? I have only found a heavy dissapator barrel, thus defeating the light carbine I am looking to build. I want to use a dissapator to avoid the gas port adjustment thing by cutting off a 20" barrel.
Thanks in advance for any advice. |
| BM has got an M4 profile dissy barrel thats lighter than the usual HBAR's. Don't know about availability but I'd try that route. You could get it turned down between the FSB legs and forward of the FSB is so desired. Unless shortened and permed I'd leave the barrel diameter as is. I think it looks better with the 3-pronger. |

Harlan and I discovered that a mid-length gas system with a super low profile gas block will not require any modifications to the handguards like the carbine versions. Great, now if someone would just start making Dissapator-style barrels on a thin profile with .625 at the FSB and the above mentioned features, many of us would be happy (for a minute). Hopefully I will be able to post a pic or 2 of my 10 year old 605 copy made with a Bushmaster Dissy barrel. Of course, back then they were all heavy, so in order to save some weight, I paid extra for the fluting. I also did extra work with a gunsmith buddy who cut the barrel to the proper length and helped me permanently attach the 3 prong flash suppressor. It is heavier than I would prefer by quite a margin, but at the recent Knob Creel machine gun shoot, I had the upper with me to use on a friend's M16A2 lower and that extra weight made full auto burts the most controlled shooting I have ever experienced, even with long bursts. It was easy to watch the rounds hitting, without vibration, through the Trijicon 4x32 scope I currently have on it. It was alomost like watching the burst through a video camera. So, while the heaviness of the rifle sucks, the extra mass does have some positive affect. |

Here are a couple of videos and a few pics of some I've done. I use the original rifle length gas system and a port of .110. Seems to work just fine.
