Recently someone posted pics of various mag pouches - I know the short M56 pouches are rare, but I jsut bought some 20 round M67 pouches and it got me thinking that a sticky on Vietnam Era web gear and pouches would be great, particularly a discussion of which pouches would be correct for which model rifle, and what year they came out. I KNOW someone out there has a good handle on this, and I'd like to know more about this subject, as I'm sure would a lot of other folks. After all, having the correct accessories for your build is part of the whole thing.

According to Kevin lyles book; Vietnam: U.S. Uniforms, M1956 M14 and Universal Smalls Arms pouchs were the standard through most of the war until late 69-70..  In 1970 the 1967 Modernized Load Carrying Equipment (MCLE) was introduced especially for Vietnam.  It was issued on a limited basis and never fully replaced the M1956 stuff.  The M1967 equipment being made of nylon for lightness and mildew resistance as opposed the M1956 being canvas.  Plastic fittings and clips replacing the metal of the M1956 Eq.
