| My friend just bought an original colt sp rifle with no forward assit and it is a large pin upper. The guy he got it from decided to deactivate it by cutting the gas tube but he also cut a deep notch into the upper. Looks like he needs a new upper. Anyone know where he can pick one up or is there a way to repair it. The gun was never even fired. What a shame. |

Hopefully your "friend" knew of the hack job before he bought it, & did not pay a big dollar amount for the rifle.
Just put a new gas tube in it & run it. If it really bothers him, SP1 upper receivers pop up in the EE & on Gun Broker every once in awhile. Pictures? |

+1 for above^^^^^ or he could go for one of these.

| depending on how deep the cut in the receiver is, he might be able to have it TIGed, but an SP1 upper receiver would likely be just as cheap. They show up on the EE frquently as well. If he got it cheap, then no big deal. A gas tube and even an upper receiver change is pretty simple. I would make damn sure the guy didn't also try to plug the barrel also - that would definitely ruin your whole day. |
