I am finally home, and will be finishing my 604 soon as I pick up the lower at my FFL. I've got several extra sets of furniture, and have decided to have a little fun with one of the less than pristine sets and camo them. Does anyone have pics (other than what's in the real deal thread) of camo'd A1 furniture? I am particularly interested in camo jobs done by the SAS in Borneo and the Falklands, especially the latter. I am looking at doing a sort of desert-themed A1 furniture set just for the hell of it. My plan is to use Desert Tan, FDE and a little OD, but with the red rocks in the area, it may end up with a little red primer on it as well. I am only painting the furniture guys. ETA: What inspired me was on page 136 of 'Secret Operations of the SAS ' by Mike Ryan, there is a drawing done from a photo that shows an SAS trooper carrying a camo'd 604. Also on the cover is a weird carbine - it has no FSB and a really weird barrel profile! Sorry I don't have access to a scanner or I'd post the pics. I just thought it'd make a fun project as I have some scratched up furniture that paint would definitely be an improvement to. |

Thanks Hal. The SAS were one of the few that camo'd A1s, although there are quite a few pics in the real deal thread of green tape and tiger stripe camo jobs in VN. Like I said, I'm doing this to less than pristine furniture, and paint will come off if it ever became an issue, which it shouldn't, as I have nicer stuff. I really need to get this rifle done, as I just met a really cool woman and want to take her shooting soon. (She's an ex-cop and likes to shoot. |
| Make sure to post pics when done. I would like to do one of mine in Tigerstripe, but I haven't seen anyone's camo job I like enough yet, nor have I gotten brave enough to try it myself. I think it would have to be done with brushes to look right and get the narrow lines and borders. |

Hey Morg, sounds like a neat project, girls and guns.
Keep us posted on both fronts. I'm looking at a kind of geometric Naval design like they used on battleships in WWI and WWII - know what I mean?
I think they used to call that pattern "dazzle". Check out these patterns: http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/11/modernist-art-in-camouflage.html You may like the WW1 German Fokker "lozenge" pattern too. |

I've seen Vietnam era pics (possibly on this site, I can't remember) in which LRRPs or the like used flower shaped bath tub stickies to camouflage a rifle. I actually remember those from being a kid - A.) they probably aren't available anymore and B.) I have my limits. |
