Hi Guys,
I'm starting to work on a GAU carbine build and was looking at the slab side upper receiver from Fulton Armory. Anybody have any experience with them? Where else could I look? Ive been following the EE and Gunbroker and havent found to much...just whole 20" uppers. Thanks for your time! Regards, PatG |

People here have reported good comments about the Fulton slick-side upper (which I believe is actually made by DPMS, if I'm not mistaken). You may also want to consider NoDak Spud's 604 upper: http://www.nodakspud.com/AR%20Lowers.htm The advantage of the NoDak Spud is that it comes in a gray finish, whereas the Fulton is black. |
| I've used Fulton, NoDak and original Colts (mixture of 604 and A1) and I think you'd be good to go with any, depending on your own personal tastes. The Fulton slickside is black - mine has an Anchor Harvey forge mark. After sending it to US Anodizing for XM grey anodizing (same finish as the NoDak receivers) the cost was just about equal to getting one from NoDak. |

What do you mean "early ones" and what do you mean standard charging handles don't work? Some of the slickside uppers made by DPMS for Fulton a few years ago had an undersized channel for the charging handle. A few people here had to send them back to Fulton to have one fitted or exchanged. When I built my GAU style carbine 3 1/2 years ago, I asked them about this and Fulton told me that if I found that my CH did not fit, they would send me one free. I went into my parts pin, pulled out a Bushy CH and bingo, it fit fine. Just something to think about. |

Quoted: If you're going with Fulton, don't get one of the early ones. Standard charging handles didn't always work on those. The color could be spotty too. I'd just get an NDS... Correct, the only issue I had on my C7 and C8 guns ( which had the same issue as the slicksides ) was that I needed to use the Fulton ( DPMS ) charging handle bodies or I was NO GO. That being said, everything else was top notch for me as far as fit and finish. Both guns are smooth, accurate and reliable. As the guns ahve been breaking in, I have noticed that GI units are slowly starting to fit but not completely. Gotta play more!!! |

I have three charging handles and found one that fit good enough that it shot in and loosened up after a few hundred rounds. It was tight but ran fine and never caused any problems. |
