Yesterday when I had my 604 at the range my buddy brought his 9mm AR that he just built.  Well I had never shot a 9mm AR before.

All I could say is WOW!  There was no recoil and super smooth.  Now I have to build a Retro 9mm.

I don't know how much more of this I can take.....

Check out NoDak's NDS-635 Upper and Lowers.
There's a thread with pictures somewhere.

I know.  I've seen them.  Just didn't realize how bad I want one until yesterday.......

What is the barrel length on that sucker?
Is there a source for front end parts?

This build sickness just never ends......

This would be, IMO, the ultimate 9mm retro build.  Experimental version of the RO663 with one-piece aluminum handguard, and ambidextrous selector and bolt catch.

My Colt barrel measured in at 7.25".

Front sight assembly is available from Garrison Manufacturing.  Order a front handguard cap while you are at it.

Handguards?   I think from reading these threads that someone here once fornicated with someone who went to school with the cousin of an immigrant who worked at a grocery where one of the customers had their car repaired by a guy who had a spare set wrapped in old dungaress in a footlocker beneath some floorboards in a condemned house.

I think.

I always thought the 9mm smg with the rifle handguards, covering the integral suppressor, looked sweet. No idea what the model number is though.

I wish you guys in Iowa would do something about that.  I've got friends across the river with places to shoot and I don't ever get to bring my SBR!

Yeah, It kills me to go to the Fremont gunshow and talk to the guys with Exeter Arms. I can never seem to get over to go shooting with them.

I always thought that one was ugly.
The slip rings are interesting looking though.
I wish I had a close up of them, and the front of the handguards.
There's a picture of one in The Black Rifle II pg. 123.

The big splatty looking aluminum handguard???

I was in a bar one time, and I overheard a tire salesman telling a garage mechanic that his sister had mentioned to a friend of her maid-of-honor's mother that the aluminum required to make that handguard (or a facsimile) would be fairly reasonably priced...Say it's 2 1/2" dia at that front flange; a 12" piece of 6061-T6 rod would run $17.78 + S&H...but she went on to tell the guy who delivered the pizza's brother-in-law's next door neighbor that getting some kind of idea of what the inside looked like would be difficult if not impossible...

You'd be better off with the black plastic handguards...

I think Mark Sims is building one of those.  I'd love to, but don't have the bucks right now...

Does Garrison have a website? Are they the only source for the FSB and HGs?
9/12/2009 11:04:34 AM EDT

They don't have HG's, at least they didn't when I built mine.  They're the only place for the FSB.  They had a website, but it hasn't been up for awhile.  They were out of business, but some of the guys on here said they got stuff from them recently.

BTW: That masturbatin' fornicatin' SOB still has the .070" steel barrel spacer for the 9mm barrel...No one ever sent an address to send it to...

(It'll probably get sucked into a mesocyclone...)

I got blindsided when the upper I got for it turned out to be more appropriate for a 605. I bought it sight unseen, who woulda known?

So now I'm sidetracked (again) picking up parts as I find them.

That fornicating SOB got one from VAAR, and thought he had sent you an IM stating such, but you know - those mesocyclones and all...

Anyway, after I found a real 633 barrel I didn't need the spacer anymore (or the Garrison barrel) so it went to my cousin, who appropriately enough is Security at a Nuke plant.

[#25]
Nah, I don't recall any IM's from either member...Might be CRS, or Internet Mesocyclones, as you suggested...

I'll email VAAR and see if he needs it...

For those reading this wondering WTF...Some of the 9mm barrels have a thinner flange than the 5.56 barrels, and the barrel nut hits the carry handle before the barrel is snug against the receiver...so you need a .065" spacer on the flange...Mine keep turning out .070"; don't know why...

I meant *me*, not you...not that there's anything wrong with that...

I never understood why they made that flange thinner and put a stupid spacer in there. I just made mine the standard thickness with no spacer. Seemed to work 100% with every barrel I made... and I made close to 50 of them.
