I have, on occasion, seen these MRT 52 marked slings.  Construction is similar to the 601 and they are usually around 39 inches in length.  What are these?  I have seen these mint coming out of 1965 dated packaging with part # 1055.00.714 5320 ?

Sounds a little short for a 601 sling. Other than that I have no clue.

Ask Bill Ricca on m14tfl.com . Could be for a Bazooka or something.

I initially was thinking of a "Grease Gun" sling, because of the length and date, but... Now I think you're right.

Found this in the online NSN Parts Catalog:

I bought a cheek piece that marked MRT for a M1 or M14. I think the bag had a paper with a NSN and said Marksman Rifle Team. I will see if I still have the paper.

I believe the MRT date is when it was "Moisture Resistant Treatment" or some such thing.

The ones dated 1965 are for the M79 grenade launcher.

We had the same ones in El Salvador 20 years later.

The one in the ebay ad is a legit M1 Garand sling.  I have one that I got from CMP marked the same way.  MRT is "Mildew Resistant Treatment" and it if was done in '52 then it was too early for an M79.  Bazooka straps looked similar but were 1.5" wide not 1.25" like the rifle slings.

Neat sling variant that you don't see very often.

*edit* just checked the 1972 dated TM for the M79 and it states the sling for it is the standard "Sling, Web, M1"...same as on the M1, M14, M16 etc....

I know, the M79 did not enter service until 1960.

They were shorter and that is all we had to use in Central America, but we had plenty of 79s.
