I heard that there were problems with Gunny's Surplus, so I'm leary of buying one from him.
Are there enough floating around the gun auction sites nowadays to warrant a search? |
| The latest round of Gunny's stuff is good to go. I and several others ordered one. Mine is in absolutely like new condition. Give him a call. A1's are getting harder to find in complete upper form and if you can secure one Gunny's is well worth the price IMO. Otherwise check the usual; EE, Gunbroker etc. Several complete 604 uppers on EE right now. Buy one for the barrel, get an A1 upper from Nodak Spud and use the 604 upper for another build or sell it on. One of us will buy it I assure you. This is a parts game my friend. I learned that real quick. |

I ordered some stock bodies last year from Gunny's that were advertised as A1's but turned out to be A2's. I also ordered a couple of bolts from them a few months ago that never showed up, and they haven't answered my e-mails.
ETA: The bolts came today. They are nice, but geez ordered 4/12, credit card charged 4/12, delivered 7/29, no response to e-mail. |

My problem with Gunny's is you never know what color they'll be.
I've never bought from them but have heard other's comments. If I'm buying an upper, I want to know if it is going to be grey, black, or purple. I would have been very disappointed getting one of the purple ones. I've never liked them. |
|
Color I can manage. I'll just Duracoat the upper/lower to match if I really want them to match.
A barrel that looks like it was raped with emory paper and a sand blaster, than thrown into a bog, then pulled out and used as a crowbar is another story.* (*Figuratively speaking. I'm sure they aren't that abused but you never know.) |

I got a upper from Gunnys today , looked new almost unfired , had a paper tube in the Barrel , just the usual white dust cleaned up perfect Sounds like another winner to me. Too bad others have had issues. I guess its like "ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances". Ain't right but thats the way it is with some vendors I guess. |

OOW had the best ones VGC & GC complete barreled uppers (Minus BCG &CH ) FOR$ 250.00 & 275.00 BUT ALAS THEY RAN OUT AND HAVE NOT SOURCED THEM AGAIN (wonder why ?) Those prices are history now for sure. As previously mentioned this latest batch from Gunny's is outstanding. Like new. |

Is there a source for just barrel assemblies? Or would be buying one of these uppers the best bet for getting a pencil-profile USGI barrel? If you want a barrel right away it is probably the best way. (Check GunBroker first. I know Colttrader had one for sale lately.) Or you can wait until someone buys one for the upper and sells the barrel. In my experience there are more people looking for barrels than uppers. |
