I am looking at replacing the original trigger on my Colt M16 A1.  Any recommendations?

You can find original Colt M-16 fire control parts at Brownell's and at Specialized Armament Warehouse.

Do they have Takedown pins with divits & &  A1 pivot pins & other A1 LOWER PIECES ? (Bolt catch & MAG RELEASE BUTTON...)

Nope.
Only places I know to get those are reproductions from Heatnbeat or originals from the EE or GunBroker.

Don't do it.
If you don't like how it feels, send it out for trigger work at the best 'smith you can afford and keep it original.

What would you replace it with?

My M-16/SP1 replica has stock RRA firing controls....under a USGI Colt 1/12 Upper.
It's taken a while for the trigger to smooth out some and is now barely acceptable. But I wanted a replica look and feel of the original platform and that's what I believe I have. The basic M-16's probably had crappy single stage triggers that took a while to wear-in and smooth out. That's what I have now. No tweaking, no 2-stage, no match-grade quality.

I want it as original as possible and I think I'll leave it that way.

Actaully along the lines of keeping it original, go buy yourself a JP trigger, they will function with M16 FCG's. Also if you really are lucky you can find a Knights trigger, they make M16 match triggers if I recall. Other than that, any garden variety trigger would work if you are planning to send it to a smith for a trigger workout. Bushy stocks them but will require a copy of your F4 to get it.

Thanks guys.  This is helpful.  I love shooting the M16.  But the trigger is horrible... I got used to the triggers on my JP15 and RRA.  The Colt M16 trigger feels very clumsy and is very heavy.  That was the reason I was looking at getting something better: lighter, tighter, & smoother.

I have an SR-25 Knight trigger...and it's been excellent.
I hear the Geiselle's very good too.

My RRA-Holliger Tuned match trigger is great for the money, but make sure whatever you get, they know it's for a full-auto.

Do full auto's need a light, match grade trigger, and what does it do to reliability as it gets lighter?

Second the JP trigger. I've had one in my Colt M16A1 for several years now, and it convinced me to switch to JPs in all my ARs.

One word of caution on JP triggers in semi AR's. When I got rid of my M16's I placed the JP trigger in one of my semi's. It started firing bursts and did so in any gun I put it in. I sold it off and started using a stock trigger. This was my exerience and yours may be different.

Interesting. I have not had that happen with my other ARs. I was just about to install JPs in my newest 6933 and 6920 ... I may instead send them off to JP for installation, for liability reasons.

I've talked to John Paul personally several times and he never mentioned this possibility. Then again, I mostly talk to him from the viewpoint of transferable and LE M16s, so perhaps it is less of a concern on FA fire-control groups.

Yeah I don't want to berate his product, as it was a nice light trgger pull. But the fact is that I could not adjust it without it having a double or more. So basically, yes, I would have him install and adjust it!

I also hate the 8+ pound trigger pull on an M16A1. It is too creepy to get accurate with it.  I am looking for a Knights Armament trigger for full auto.  I rarely shoot this gun in full Auto but I need a much smoother trigger. Unfortunately Knights Armament is back logged due to two current wars.  Does anyone know where I can purchase one.

thank you in advance

Have you guys considered sending your stock triggers to Bill SPringfield.  I don't have a M-16, but he does all my AR single stages.  I put a new DPMS (because it took naval jelly well, not that I prefer DPMS) with his work over in a retro build.  The total cost was $55 and it's as good or better than the two stage I have in my new guns.  The nice thing is it keeps a retroish look with the performance of more expensive triggers.

I'm giving serious consideration to having Bill Springfield work the triggers I use in my FA Uzi. But for the '16 I like the JP because it limits overtravel with the included set screws, and a Springfield trigger job is contrained by the mechanical limits of the factory trigger. He can make it crisp, but I doubt he can reduce overall trigger movement to the levels of the JP.

Bill has worked on my V51 SBR and my competition AR triggers.
The work he did on my V51 was simply amazing!
My competition AR is very nice as well, but didn't need as much improvement as the HK trigger.
I sent off the AR trigger 7/27, he got it on 7/29 and I had it back on 8/1.
Extremely fast turnaround!
If he will work on a full auto FCG, I'd not hesitate to send him one.
He does need the trigger, disconnector, hammer and all three springs.
Give him an e-mail and see if he will do full auto.
