I am considering the M231 stock on my current build.

Are these stocks comfortable? I am imagining it being like an Uzi folder (not a good thing)
Do they use a standard buffer and spring?
Is there a sling attachment point?
What about durability and weight? How does it compare to the standard CAR or rifle stock?

Uncomfortable, worse than an Uzi folder IMHO. Cheek weld is non-existent.

Carbine buffer/spring, no sling attachment point (at least on my repro).

Haven't used it enough to speak to duarability.  It is light and balance shifts forward a bit.

The original 231 uses a series of nested springs and a different buffer.

Durable? Yes.

Comfortable? No.

Designed to be port-fired using tracers to "walk" to the target.  It has no sights.

I was imagining something like this.

Upper:
flattop M4 upper with an M4 barrel, cut and threaded at the grenade launcher ring (12" +/-)
- ARMS #41B folding front sight base
-ARMS #40 L SP folding BUIS , mounted a few notches forward ( #3 or #4 )
-triangular front handguards, flat slip ring

Lower:
Essential Arms standard lower
-A1 grip
-M231 stock
-H2 buffer

Optic:
Aimpoint of some kind
- ARMS cantilever mount, to scoot it forward

KInd of weird, but I have never seen it. It would be like the colt 9mm upper with the folding front sight that I cannot remember the name of, but with some modern optics

I had one on my RR for a while, carbine spring, and an H2 buffer,

worked fine, not exactly comfortable

swapped it out for a nice alum colt 2pos, that I'm not thrilled about, but fits my M60 barrel bag nicely,,,

How does the M231 peice attach to the buffer tube? Does it clamp on, or thread on? Set5 Screws?

Another project of mine is fidning an alternative stock for a S&W Model 76 submachinegun.
I do not need the buffer tube, spring or buffer for this project.
If anyone would sell me the wire stock, and the piece it slides into and those associated buttons etc.
I will be refinishing it, so condition is not important.

Her's a shot of my oddball AR in 45acp with an aftermarket M231 style stock. I may put an early 2 position stock on it eventually to make it look like a 9mm DOE carbine, but I like it how it is for now, comfortable it ain't though.

I have been using the M231 stock on a 10.5" mg with endine buffer. I really like it. Of course it could be better.

I have a modification that I must make to it. I want the stock to stop at the end of the buffer tube. It would need new notches to the cut into the rod on each side, in between the other two pairs of notches.

Probably an Olympic Arms 9mm  or 45 ACP setup.

Yep, it's welded to a modified grease gun mag. I have a dozen more spacers fabricated, someday I'll modify more mags but the two I have will do for now.
