Hey guys,

I was reading in another post that Bushmaster Superlight carbine barrels are actually skinnier than the original military carbine barrels. Is this true?  How do the Model 1 Sales lightweights compare with Bushmaster Superlights girth-wise (girth is a terrible word)?  Thanks for the info!

I got one of the Shaw barrels that model 1 sells... i built a lightweight carbine with it, its not exactly the best retro rifle choice because it is heavy diameter under the front sight base, I just try not to look at that part on my rifle .  I dont really care though, it still looks okay and its a decent barrel, the gun shoots fine.  I have no experience with the bushmaster barrels other than the 11.5 inch heavy one on my other carbine.

They are the same.  They both use the .625 FSB and have the same step down forward of the FSB.

If there's a difference between my Bushy Superlight barrel and my Colt 6520 barrel it's too small for my crappy caliper to pick up.

I think my model 1 lightweight barrel is a .750 FSB then skinny forward of the FSB.  The barrel is much thicker under the FSB than it is ahead of it

I am strongly convinced that the superlights are in fact skinnier than Colt lightweight barrels.
there is much less shoulder for cutting/threading a SL than a standard lightweight.

HAHA I think it was you that got me wondering about that, I think I recognized your breakfast Jolly Roger avatar.

Well thanks for the input guys.  I think I've ruled out the Model 1, mostly because the Bushmaster barrel assembly turns out to be cheaper anyhow.  I just got off unemployment so I might get in line at Bushmaster.
