| Question....is it possible to turn down a post ban BM M4 14.5" barrel? Given the current situation on barrel shortages, would it be feesable to have an M4 barrel turned down to a lightweight profile (including replacement of front sight tower). I think ADCO would do this kind of work, but ultimately, the barrel would go to 45Bravo for XM-177 modification. Is this a worth while task, or should I just scrap the idea. Bear in mind that the barrel threading was damaged beyond repair when removal of the BM "Izzy" break was attempted. |

IIRC 45Bravo has turned down HBAR or Govt profile barrels to LWT profile. The one post I saw showed he left the .750" FSB but turned down the area between the front and rear "rings" of the FSB to .625".
Not sure if the M4 cutout is too small to be worked into a LWT profile. YMMV |

The only problem with turning down a barrel under the FSB, is having to align the sight and redrill the tapered pin holes that hold on the FSB. It's a little bit of work, but it can be done without too much of a problem. I agree with Uncle. It can be done, but is it worth the trouble. Work like that is time consuming and in a situation where time is money, it will depend on how badly you want this done. |

It's a little bit of work, but it can be done without too much of a problem. The original .750" FSB and taper pins are retained. The barrel is only machined smaller where it shows under and forward of the FSB. Looks like two big cooling fins before the FSB is replaced. Wish I could find the photo as it is difficult for a lousy writer like me to explain clearly. YMMV |

YMMV Right, it's no big. 45Bravo has done it before and posted pics, although I can't find them in the archives. |
