I'm new to the retro scene here and hope I'm not covering old ground, but I've started gathering pieces for a 601 build and am wondering how to identify a period-appropriate GI sling. I've perused the variation guide (great info!) but don't see much about slings.
There's one on GB right now that has the correct general traits (green web, adjustable only at the keeper), but it doesn't look quite like the last couple I've seen there––including the one Ekie recently bought (which I'm assuming was genuine, based on price). The attached pic shows the "stitched" end of two slings. The pics aren't terribly sharp but you can see that one has a longer "fold" than the other. Might these be two different generations of the early sling? If anyone has definitive info––preferably with good photos of the hardware and stitching––I'd appreciate it. As the prices on these things climb, I'm sure we all want to know exactly what we're shopping for. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/8671/2slingsof0.jpg |
| Since the photo on the left is blurry - to say the least, it actually looks like the "clip" has the bend in it - photo taken dead on.....if it doesn't, then it ain't military. I'd want another photo before I bid....then again, I'd make one up before I paid that much for a sling :) I figure the weapon has so many reproduction parts on it already, one more won't make any difference...... |
