I know it is a Colt SP1 Carbine. It looks like it was cut down to 11.5 at some time, then had an extended flash hider pinned on.

Look at the front sight. There is a threaded allen set screw that I think goes all the way to the gas tube. The only thing I can think of is that it was once on a F/A gun and instead of drilling a larger gas port they opened up the front???? I have no idea.
I have heard that a few companies modified 16" barrels when you could not get any 11.5 due to military use.

My NoDak 16A1 lower will be ready in a few days and we'll see if it cycles.

I plan on building a GAU/5 Retro. I appreciate any input or ideas and love the site!

There is a link highlighted in red that takes you to my pic page. For some reason I am having difficulty adding the pics to the web page.

What's the set screw in the FSB all about???  That's something someone has added for some reason.

fixed your pics for you.  i had an upper with the same thing.  never did find out why it was drilled/tapped and an allen screw put in place there.  it was an a1 upper too if i recall.

I have heard that was so you could slide the early style gas tube (with the bend right at the barrel nut) forward after removing the roll pin to make it easier to remove.
