I'm starting to gather up components for building a retro 602 style. Does anyone know of a source for a 20" lightweight, pencil barrel?
CMMG has a 20" lightweight that may fit the bill, but they are a bit spendy. Sarco seems to have the barrels at a much better price, but with them you never know what you're going to get. I don't plan on shooting this A1 too often...mostly a functionable show piece. |

I have not had any issues with SARCO in the few times I got parts from them, however I have not gotten any m16 parts from them.
That said, other than surface finish I doubt that you will find any issues with a barrel from them. I had a CMMG A1 barrel at one time.............had being the key word. Get a GI. |
| Of course I'd love to build it as exact as I can, but I'll settle for just about anything that'll look remotely correct. In this current market I'll be happy with anything I can get my hands on. Those stripped barrels listed on Sarco's website are the ones I was talking about. I called them to see if they had them in stock. After transferring me around I landed on some guys would were probably in a warehouse. I could overhear the guys relaying messages. I overheard a guy say they "aren't selling any AR barrels" and then the guy on the phone told me "they're out of stock". I heard through another thread somewhere on this forum that the local gov't was giving Sarco some guff...wonder if they are actually out or they are just not allowed to sell them? |

Too bad Obama's not threatening to ban GM, Chrysler & Ford products. Maybe those guys should think about retooling and cranking out AR's. Didn't GM make some M1 Carbines during WWII? Saginaw Steering Gear. The original plant is still there at I-75 and M-46, just outside Saginaw, Michigan; but now has a huge "DELPHI" sign hanging off of it. My father got a job there in 1939 rifling .30 caliber machine gun barrels, until he joined the Army in 1942. There are STILL urban legends around this area of CRATES of M-1 carbines being buried in the parking lot (WHY?!?) A lot of the legends of hiden war materiel have gone away as the older generations have died off. But, hey....I know where in the Colt factory in Hartford there are cases of dimpled selectors in the break room closet, underneath the boxes of napkins and relish!.... |
