| Does anyone know an approximate date on when Colt switched the carrier key staking from the early type (staking from the top) to the current style? |
| Don't have an exact date, but the two non C marked carriers I have, one chrome smoothside and one parked A1 profile are both single punched. On the other hand, all the C marked A1 carriers I have show the side punched staking. My hunch is that the side punch started about the time that Colt started using the C mark in the early '70s. |

That is correct, C marked carriers have the modern stakes, and the older unmarked ones have the old style. Am sure there was a transition, but I have never seen one. This happened in about September of 1967, at around the 800,000 serial number range (M16A1). |
