Whats up guys I just got a colt sp1 upper I think any help from you guys will help. It has tringel hand guards one is marked  with a L the other has no markings The upper is a A1 upper wiyh no markings except up front next to the delta ring there is a C stamped in a square and a tringle with what looks to be VP. The dust cover is totaly different than the A2 dust cover and it has a tear drop foward assist. The barrel is a pencel barrel with a A1 bird cage with a lock washer, It is marked C MP B  about 1 inch behind the flash hider on the under side of the barrel. It has a A1 style delta ring also.
the front sight base is marked with a C  on the upper side and the bottom is marked with what looks like a bell. It is in probly 98% condition. Is this upper special at all or should I go shoot it. I'm in to the newer Ar rifles ant thought it would be cool to have one of the older ones. Is the barrel crome lind on these? Sorry for the shitty grammer and spelling, any help from you guys would be much appriciated.

One last question What the hell does the B stamped on the barrel mean?I know what the  C MP stands for but I have never seen a colt barrel stamped with a B.

Thank you
Bryan

Effective in December 1971 at about serial number 4,700,000 along with the chamber the bores were chromed, early ones were marked C MP B. The C means Colt’s, the M means Magnetic particle inspected, the P for Proof fired, and the B for chrome Bore. The barrel extension on these not chromed:

Likely not an SP1 upper if it has a forward assist, although I understand a few were built with one. Check the ront lug - is it a small hole? Sounds like an M16A1 upper.

Yes it is a small hole upper that is counter bored, and it fits on my stag lower with the regular pins.

That means you've got an M16A1 upper, not an SP1.

Shoot that puppy, and have some fun with it.
