How do you know it is a "demil"??? The ad states "milled front sight"...

I'm just asking, not criticizing...

For that price, it should be the whole barrel...and the pic does show the gas tube...

He has another auction showing demilled barrels with forged front sight bases and cut gas tubes. It is an assumption on my part since he doesn't show the rear half.... Yes price is high.

Is that a cast front sight base (601) or the later one, forged then smoothed?

The raised, not stamped, arrow and "UP" are a dead giveaway for the cast FSB.

I had emailed the guy last night. Got a one word answer from him this afternoon. "DEMILL" (spelled just the way he did)

Damn, I've been looking for a cast FSB and I was on the forum about 10 minutes before this post.

You've got to be QUICK around here........

Anyone else have one for sale?????

Assuming it was all original to the barrel of course, would the combination of a cast fsb, an improved 3 prong, and being "12 marked" have made this a barrel from '63?

From what I've read here & RBR,com late 63 the barrel would be vp mkd under the sight base, w/12 behind the muzzle, late 601, in 64 they added an M under the base, M & VP w/the 12 by the muzzle, which I assume would make that a 602 barrel, it said the cast base was used on 601's & early 602's, I'm the "nut" who bought the one above as I've been looking for one since I decided to do a 601 & it (& the barrel) were the last pieces I needed! I have one of the M VP marked barrels w/a smooth sight on the way (don't know if it's a cast one though or forged) & now find out that barrel probably isn't correct for a 601!, least I got the correct sight base LOL!
TGUS & RMILLER thanx for the tip & the info!

willp,

Nice find, if you decide for some reason it's not what you need, please let me know. I'm working on a 602 build right now.

I dunno if you've ever tried swapping used FSB's, but it isn't exactly simple..........

I'd hold out for an original bbl w/cast fsb..........

just my .02

Ouch!, now they're $90, latewatch, good thing you missed the first one!
I've been told about the f sght bases being difficult to change, wouldn't even attempt it, that job'll go to someone who knows what they're doing, unless I can find a proper barrel/base for a 601 which has been a no go as long as I've been looking. Of course I couldn't find a cast f base either, next day 3 more show up & cheaper!

Those three look like (to me) the early forged with the flash milled off not the first cast ones.
