Well this is going to take a while to finish since I have to wait on Nodak-Spud to start
selling the correct receiver again but here it goes anyways.

First off, I have a C7 style upper and just decided to remove the shell deflector instead
of waiting to find a real one. I also removed the Anchor Harvey forge marking and
engraved the Colt proof stamps myself.

I have the parts painted with a black paint pen just for the photo.

Here is the fake stamping on it that I engraved. I need to touch it up a bit. Again, it is painted over with a paint pen for the photo.

That is incredible!!!!

Great work!!!

Thanks, I have an engraving pattern I want to get done on the side of my lower when I
get one to mimic an original, but you all are going to have to wait to see that one.

I've always wondered, I'm guessing the shell deflector was solid?

Very nice job, by the way.

Thanks, yes it was solid all the way through. I believe the receiver to be a DPMS (has
an "L" stamped on the rear lug)

That looks great.

Anytime a gun part is in the vise, I get that warm, fuzzy feeling...

Keep up the good work!

I usually get a warm, fuzzy feeling when I pee myself.

That is great work!  I used to think about modifying a C7 upper, but everytime I looked at one, it just looked too hard and I put it away, even when I got my rotary table and vertical mill.  So, you certainly have my respect!

Thanks. I did the majority of the work with files, then smoothed it out with a dremel.
I just cant bring myself to part out one of my original Colt uppers and I never seem
to find them stripped.

Wow, That's the best looking job of removing a brunton bump I've seen.  Good work there man.

Thanks guys.

OK, so now I need a new ejection port door. Any ideas where to get a retro one at? I
know, the EE, but I have not found one yet. Going to go to a gun show in KC this
weekend so maybe I can find one there. I have the buttstock, barrel, PG, and HG's
lined up for it right now, and I have a BCG as well. Anything else I am missing besides
the lower receiver?

I actually thought about it

Easiest place to find one is on an M16A1 upper.

Otherwise look in the EE, or dig through small parts bins at gunshows.  a couple of guys had them at the last knob creek shoot.

If I had a spare A1 upper lying around or could find one stripped I would not have
messed with grinding the bump off of the one above

Last year, on the retro forum, someone said they were hollow and full of sawdust or peanut butter or some such, so I was afraid to grind mine off!!!
Nice work DM1975, I may have to drag mine out tomorrow and go to whittling on it!

Looks good! It's lame work removing that hump isn't it? I used to charge $75 for that service. But getting done, and done well, really sucks.

Thanks, it is some serious work getting it done smooth. Taking it down is no problem,
but the blending for me is the hard part.

That first line would make a great sigline quote if I didn't mind pissing off VAAR! I'll let it pass this time man, but next time all bets are off. j/k

DM1975 - That is truly some talented work. You're a goddamn sculptor who missed his calling. We know you got nuts because you've BTDT, but damn, taking on the legendary Brunton Bump? That takes hair! Looks smoother than the upper I just got from OOW. What have you got planned for it?

Thanks Just a simple 607 build. I have a set of handguards on the way, one of
pan's buttstock creations in rout, and a Colt 1/12 barrel that will get sent to Steve to
get cut down to size. I am probably just going to shoot the upper with Norrels right
now.

Only real hold up I have is waiting on a retro partial fence lower ( Mike ) Faster I
get that the faster I can get the engraving done and get the form 1 sent off. I already
have an SBR'd LMT that I will take the upper out on to test for accuracy though
7/23/2008 8:39:47 PM EDT
[#24]
Sounds great! I guess the leadline of '607 build' might have clued me in if I hadn't had a few beers after being in the sun all day. DOH! I've been considering the SBR route myself for some time, except a regular carbine just seems so short already. With the 607 parts starting to come out of the woodwork again, I might just have to go there dammit. I really hate you guys sometimes for dangling stuff in front of me. I'm like a damn kitten with a bell on a string...
7/23/2008 8:43:29 PM EDT
[#25]
BRD is a bad disease, retro BRD is even worse, but retro BRD and SBR disease is killer
sometimes.

I thought my M4 was just so short till I got my LMT and man, that M4 feels so damn
long now. I cant wait till I get this 607 completed, I just picked the wrong time to get a
lower for it.

Your damn thread just made me commit to another carbine barrel...I hope you're happy!

(I really don't need those groceries anyway. If my damn parents hadn't started me on eating every day, just think of all the money I could spend on retro parts.)

You can grind some A2's down into square 601 port doors, but you can't grind an A2 down into a rectangular A1 port door.  Ask me how I know.

You can't pay me to do that, even with the mill and rotary table.

I sent the barrel for my 607 build to KKF. It should be back soon.
