So I've got most of the parts ordered and realized I forgot to order the sling. I started looking through the threads and even used the search but came up empty... What sling do I use for an A2 clone? Any help is appreciated. TIA |
Start over, what exactly are you building, A2 what ??? Are you referring to the m16A2.. Just a black military silent sling... |
Just a black silent sling was common then, I seen some on the EE yesterday |
Thanks. That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure.

What the heck are you talking about? The issue slings have been nylon for the life of the M16A2 rifle. The black nylon "silent" sling was first used with the M16A1 and even came with Colt SP1 rifles. The M1 gunsling became nylon during Vietnam and just changed nylon material type only. Cotton went out with the M14. |

Yep, the A2 slings were cotton, at least everyone I was ever issued (I still have a couple) and the slings that come with the M4 in the plastic package with a mag and a TM are nylon. Two different things. ETA: There may have been a transition along the way somewhere but they were cotton for quite a while. |

Yep, there is a difference. When you have one of each side by side to compare, you can not only see, but you can feel the difference. The original silent slings are softer and more pliable than the newer 100% nylon slings. The original silent slings also fade with use and cleanings, verses the 100% nylon version. |
| Calm down scottrh2, I know that they call the nylon sling a silent sling. If you ever carried a rifle all day on your shoulder you would realize that the nylon slides all over and makes the gun hard to handle. A cotton sling will keep it there and not move as much. As nylon came along and it became more acceptable or popular in the market place; It was apparently cheaper to produce than cotton. Economics man.. |

I suppose now you will say that the black issued jungle boots and the current Belleville boots are made with cotton sides and not cordura nylon... Nylon comes in many textures.........take one of those pretty slings in the pix and use a heat knife to cut it.....then do that to a cotton one....let me know what happens. |
| That's kind of weird, becuase I got a USGI, well, I think it is, sling with my first CMP garand and it was the green nylon with the buckle for adjustment. But it is for sure nylon. Looks almost brown too because it was faded. I believe those were actually M14 slings. I don't know. |
