Let me say up front, I am not really a retro AR guy. I just thought these things looked cool as hell. Then a buddy told me what they are. I don't really want into the NFA world either. Then I was told to visit with TSI because they had the skinny on these little jewels. Low and behold, TSI is gone! So my last option is to turn a clone (non-sound suppressing of course) on my lathe. So having written all that, does anyone have dimensions on them. Primarily the slots up front, length, width, taper at the ends? The rest looks pretty straight forward, but any dimensions woild be appreciated.

45bravo here on the forum offers a good clone of the 4.5" moderator for $45 in the Equipment exchange (just od a search under 'retro', and Bushmaster has a clone that is a little less correct but is $15.  it is hard to beat $15 considering lathe setup time!

I've been trying to find EXACTLY what the difference is between the Bushmaster look alikes and the real things, but I got nothing to go off. Does anyone know exactly where the Bushmaster differs? I know 45Bravo made some 'near' copies from Bushmaster pieces, so I assuming they aren't that far off, but I am frequently wrong.

Bushmaster ones have a tiny ridge on the back that needs to be machined flush, and no wrench flats.  The flash hider slights are slightly longer than the original, but I honestly think most people would not notice the minor differences.

[ETA]  don't get me wrong, 45Bravo's stuff is awesome.  I just happened to pick up some arts from Bushamster so it was worth the $15 for one of theirs.
