My friend aquired this upper (complete) and only wanted the barrel.  He called Colt and they told him it was a transitional upper (when they were going from A1 to A2).  It looks original finish.  Any comments of knowledge and value?  He wants to sell it.

ETA : He told me he wants $150 plus $5 for USPS Priority Mail.  I will be listing it in the upper section.

ETA : Sorry, didnt know posting values was a no-no.  Pls IM or email ideas to ask, if thats not against the rulz.  Ah, never thought about sear relief!

It's nothing special. It's missing the sear relief.

A1 upper receiver with a Rapidex windage knob.

Sorry, but we can't post prices or value of items in Retro anymore per the forum rules.

I'm guessing you mean it's not a "collectible"??? The lack of sear relief would make it an SP1 then??? It does have the small takedown pin holes...

There's been a goodly number of posts of people looking for no-hump forward-assist receivers lately...

It is something of an odd duck, but I don't think it would be worth anymore than a regular m16a1 upper.

It is in nice shape, though.

Look closer, there is an adapter in the pivot pin hole, held in place by a twist tie or something.

Yes that is correct.  Its a piece of thread to keep the adapter from being lost.

I saw the wire in the front pivot hole, but I've never seen an adapter...Are they eccentric or concentric??? I recall a post where someone mentioned turning the "adapter pin" (?) to make the receiver halves snugger...

It must be an early SPII if it is a big hole.

I dont know where he got the bushing, but the holes are not true to each other.  He attached it with a piece of thread and told me he wanted it to go with the upper.  Im gonna email him this link and let him decide what he wants to do with it.

Well I guess the final word has been spoken.

It looks pretty good to me, I think a carbine build is in order for that upper!

Not a big problem. A 5/16" reamer should line them up pretty quick...

In all seriousness...Many years ago, I had an aftermarket "XM-15" upper & lower that were supposedly "matched" at the factory/distributor [coff*Springfield Armory*coff]...they were so loose, they rattled...So I clamped them tight and reamed them oversize and made two custom pins for them...Worked like a charm...

Indeed it has. And the only thing special about it is that if you have an SP1 or 2, and want to build an XM177E2 clone with a forward assist and not have to use an offset pin you'll need one of these.  The adapter sleeve is a DPMS product and is offset, so you can match the upper to a small hole lower.

Might be worth a few bucks more to a big hole lower owner, to not have to use an offset pin. The one I bought a few years back was worth a bit less to me, simply for the work I had to do to sleeve it.

I would LOVE to have that upper on my SP1!

It would build the perfect 607 with no bushing!
