Left is an original Armalite. Middle is an original second version Colt. Right is an original third version. I'm still on the lookout for an original Colt first version. I skipped the current plastic version. Based on production numbers, is the second version Colt the rarest? http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9922152165.jpghttp://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9922152097.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9922152059.jpghttp://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9922152058.jpg |

Can you say "obsession"? I know you can. When I started getting interested in AR15's I never had any idea how many little changes these things went through over the last 40 years. I think almost every day I read something here and I think "WTF?!? I never knew that!!! Learn something new everyday" Doc

I always thought the straight ribbed ones were cut in and had a hole like all of the others. I think I like that Armalite one with no hole though.

It is for an Armalite AR10 |

The original Colt, first version did have a hole in it as the added picture shows. That's the button I've been looking for. If you find an original, feel welcome to let me know. Are you looking for a rough measurement or one that is so precise that you could duplicate the assembly? I could give you a rough one but would be shy about giving you a precise one as I don't have a caliper set or anything more accurate than a framing tape. The Armalite button came off of a demilled Dutch AR10. Until sombody convinces Reed Knight to take one of his rifles off of the wall for a picture, we have to use other sources to determine what the first Armalite AR15 buttons would look like. Here is a source with awesome pictures for all(?) of the Dutch and Sudanese contract AR10 rifles. Be sure to check out the model overview page as well as the "cutaway" gun. For everything you ever wanted to know (with great pictures) about AR10 rifles, it is completely worth the long loading wait: WARNING: I don't work for NDS nor have I ever met them but if you are even remotely interested in the new retro upper from NDS visiting this website will be like throwing a bucket of racing fuel on your backyard grill. www.ar10.nl/ There is a thread about this website over on the AR10 board: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=62&t=320734 |
