Not real sure if this should be in Retro, but here goes.  I am looking for a place to buy a 37mm M203 for my M4 clone.  If anyone has any information or an idea of price it would be appreciated.  Thanks

randy shivak at www.mr40mm.com

He makes the M203 recievers but sells them as just a reciever or with a 37mm barrel. The reciever by itself is a normal title 1 firearm. It can be shipped to any FFL. You must file an ATF form1 and pay the $200.00 tax to put a 40mm barrel on it legaly.

Cost for a reciever is 2,275.00

They are listed on the equipment exchange pretty regularly and on gunbroker.com too.  Price is usually around $250-$300.

If you can find an old RPB brand launcher it looks pretty much dead on, although the barrel is steel and a little heavier than the real M203.

The Cobray launchers are the ones you typically see, and due to the mounting system they hang a bit low, but they can be modified to pull them up to a position more like the M203.  They have an aluminum barrel and are a bit lighter.

The real deal will cost you more, I own a LMT 40mm launcher and they retail for about $1900. Shivak makes them in both 40 and 37mm and they cost a bit more. Quality is excellent however. The cheapos will give you the basic look of a M203 and cost a lot less, so if your just after an aproximate look then that is your ticket.

And the 12 gauge adapters make cool noises.

I thought it was illegal to use a 12 gauge adapter in a 37mm Launcher.

As far as I am aware it is OK as long as you are only using 12 gauge flares in a 37mm.  In a DD registerd 40mm you should be OK to shoot shogtun shelss

With a plastic adapter it would be more than just illegal to shoot a 12 gauge round, it would be downright dangerous to the user.

ORF has the real M203 rec for 599, they transfer like a reg rifle. Mr 40mm knows he's the only game in town, thats why his 37mm 203 barrels are so freakin exspensive. either way your looking at a coupla grand for an actual 37/40mm M203. Those flare launchers are sooo lame looking, not worth the 2-300 they go for. Because you can't get the ammo for either the 37 or 40mm easily or cheaply, just get a good high quality metal airsoft M203. airsoftextreme.com has them for 150, and you can get a metal barrel for it. I got a metal airsoft GP-30 for my AK74 that was Identacle to the real deal, even had MFG makers marks.

Personally, I would choose an M79 over an M203.

+1

Saw someone makes the M-79 receiver for about $1,700.

Would a blooper be considered a "destructive device" ?

If it had a 40mm barrel yes.  WIth a 37mm barrel no, just a signal launching device.

Having shot both the 79 and the 203 I too prefer the 79. But wow talk about a price tag....... Also not easy to find.
