Anyone know what kind of barrel this is? COLT AR15 Item No. 550980B Barrel Additional Shipping charge: $1.00 Retail Price: $99.95 |
| Hard to tell they really dont give any info, I didnt see any pics. I didnt even see if it was new or used. given the price I would guess a used GI barrel. A1 or A2 it doesent even say that. I would call them to get info. 99 bucks for a GI barrel in decent shape is a hell of a good price. |
How/why would anyone use a pipe wrench on an AR-15/M16 barrel??? In place of a barrel vise??? Turn the barrel nut with one pipe wrench and hold the barrel with another??? ![]() That doesn't sound like Numrich...(or Gunparts.com)...Maybe that's why they're so cheap??? Someone else stripped USGI rifles and Numrich bought the parts??? ![]() How barbaric... |
I wouldn't consider it a deal. You have to add a frotn sigte base and barrel nut, and by then you are at almost $150...and for that price I can a 16" barrel with the front sight base and threads from Sarco or Brownells with the discount... |
That's .22 Long Rifle??? Those teeny tiny cartridges??? How are you going to chamber them??? ![]() I know several distributors (like Ciener) make a conversion kit, but is there some kind of chamber insert???
|
He is obvioiusly going to use a conversion Kit, there isn't any other way to make that .223 chambered barrel work as a .22LR barrel unless he is aking the front end stub he chops and chambers it for .22LR and threads ofr a custom extension similar to a 9mm. [ETA] fixed atrocious spelling, and also I admit that A chmber insert had not occured to me...neat! |
Where in heck did you get that? I have a M261 I traded lusciousclay for, and a Ciener. I think I like the M261 better because the inserts fit in regular AR mags, so I'll be able to use retro 20's.

You never know what you'll find in junk boxes at gun shows...
PICTURES!!! We want pictures!!! |
Wow!!! Everybody's got their panties in a bunch today!!! Thanks for the pics, VAAR! I have never examined a conversion kit (we always live fired 5.56mm in both the USMC and the USAFR), so I was curious about the chambering. It looks like the carrier has the chamber insert built in. I suppose that means the bullet doesn't impact rifling until it hits the barrel...so the carrier is actually part of the barrel, if measured from the bolt face to the muzzle... ![]() You're building a dedicated .22LR "SBR", right??? No gas tube; just the conversion kit??? |
Right. The .22 conversion kits really muck up the barrel, and I can just imagine the lead building up around the gas port, so dedicated upper sounds better to me. As I understand it, they are not really accurate, though. Model 1 Sales has recently started making 1/15 .22 barrels without the .223 chamber. They use a modified Ciener bolt that does not have the chamber insert, and are supposed to be much more accurate. |
