I have heard alot about the quality of Colt AR15's. Most of the praise seems to relate to the newer LEO rifles. Are the Colt SP1 rilfes held in the same high regard? I love "classic" firearms of all types and the SP1 really appeals to me. I'm not worried about its ability to take on accessories or ease to modify. This would be kept in stock configuration. I'm just looking for opinions on the quality of these rifles. Thanks. |
Except for the "civilian" modifications (and paperwork), the SP1s made in the 70's were identical to the M16s Colt made for the Govt. in the same timeframe. |
Beamy, prolly don't have to sell us on the merits of pencil barrel ARs. Now here's the question...how does an SP1 compare with a good A1 replica built with an M16 upper? Moon |
That's my question right now. I'm thinking I'd rather have a NoDakSpud retro built A1 clone these days. |

I wish I had never sold my SP1 back in 94. It was hands down the best AR Ive ever owned. I currently have a new Colt A1 upper mated to a Sabre defense lower with early furniture while Its every bit as accurate as the SP1 and hasent given me a single problem its just not the same. The clean lines of the SP1 lower and a non FA upper, youd have to handle both side by side to understand. Id take the SP1 hands down. |
