My agency issued me a Colt M16a1 carbine with the 14.5 inch barrel, I think it is a model 653. My question is someone at one time tried to paint the weapon, and the finish has several run marks and is very sticky. I don't know the proper way to refinish this and have it look some what factory, if anyone has any suggestions to refinish, I'm listening. |

Try the refinishing section under ARMORY. Duracoat makes a Colt grey color that would work. There is a company that re anodizes. Let me look and I will find the name of the company. ETA: Try these guys www.usanodizing.com/pricing.htm |
| I personally would try to remove the paint first, to see the condition of the factory anodizing underneath. Probably some automotive brake cleaner spray would remove it without harming the anodizing. Just keep the brake cleaner out of the INSIDE of the upper receiver, since it will remove the anti-wear (moly?) coating on the surface. If the brake cleaner doesn't work, there are stronger solvents which will. A "gel" type paint stripper would likely do the trick; just verify your chosen brand won't harm aluminum first (although most paint strippers are pretty weak, it is always wise to check first). |
