| Anyone else have the israeli surplus scope from armory parts exchange? I thought about a month ago someone stated there was a company that could refurbish these scopes? |
| I have one. Just got it sighted in on Monday. I had to do a little work to get the scope to sit solid on the Carry Handle. It seemed to work. The elevation adjustment detents worked well but the windage was simply turning until it was sighted. It should not move though, it was not easy to turn. I only had time for 50m Zero. I might be interested in a refurb too. |
| I got a brand new Hakko (who made them for Colt) 4X scope from CDNN for less than what the well used (and abused) Israeli scopes sell for. Don't really understand what people see in them, considering they aren't really GI (or Colt ) "retro". Maybe the beat to sh*t look? |
Hakko is make in China (BLUE ring scopes), these scopes were made in Israel....Greater quality....The one i got is not beat up!...All you had to do was ask for one in good condition. |
The Hakko blue ring stuff is made in China, but previously thier compact scopes (like the later Colt ones) were made in Japan. You might be right about the Israel thing, as I certainly don't know any differently, but I assumed that these were made in Japan for the IDF. |
| My Hakko 4X scope (and yes, it's a Blue Ring) says "Made in Japan" on the scope, box, manual, and even the little lens cloth. It is NOT made in China! I have one of the cheap Leapers scopes as well, trust me, there is no comparison. The Hakko is probably twice the weight of the Leapers and of very high quality. That's why I bought it. |
|
My understanding is that the Israeli Eyal scopes were made by Hakko in Japan under an IDF military contract. They are far superior to the civilian versions and beat the holy crap out of the later Chinese Hakko scopes. The reason that they are appealing to me is that I build IDF clones. These are the proper scopes for those clones. They also work extremely well and I have them on several of my "loaner" SHTF rifles. |

I bought one of the IDF surplus scopes and the quality is fantastic! The glass is clear and holds zero just fine. I have one of thoose "blue ring" chinese scopes and the IDF scope beats the carp out of it. I also have the Colt 4x20 sporter scope and the IDF version is much more durable. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/israeli1.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/israeli3.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/israeli2.jpg |
AND the Israeli scope has a bigger field of view, because it is 3x rather than 4x |
|
Thumbs up here too. They're built like a tank, very solid. My two are crystal clear. I had to fix the BDC ring on one of them, but all is well. Another company has them for $300. Looks like they were refinned with spray paint. info from there site : Israeli EL-Op EYA1 Scope 3x21

Mine arrived today. It has the reticle like the picture posted by Mars_Attacks (thick on bottom, left, and right - thin on top), but the attachment at the bottom doesn't match anyone else's. It's just a wheel with a small bracket. I'll try to post a picture soon. Edit: http://www.joker23.completelyfreehosting.com/images/scope.jpg |

Sounds like you got one with just a knurled nut. Which is fine. The earlier/older scopes offered by Apex have the silver lever mount. They are pretty sturdy. The later black levers are flimsy, at least mine is, so I'm going with a knurled nut like yours. ![]() They should work fine. Hal |
I think you got it. The new Hakko scopes are superior, but may not look right on a retro build. Just my .02 |
|
I just noticed something about my scope, and I hope it's nothing. When I adjust for up and down, there are distinct 'clicks' at adjustment. When I adjust for right and left, it turns smoothly. Should the adjustment for left and right 'click' as well? Edit: I read through the posts again and it looks like imdBman is describing the same thing with his (in the 2nd post in the thread, which I somehow missed). |
|
Yeah...Lucky? The 3rd had good clicks...but doesn't work on my upper...It's zero'd waaay too high and I can't get it down enough to do any good at 100 yards. Shooting way over the top of the target.......don't know what to do next other than see if anyone else wants to buy it and put the time into setting it up right....:( |
