Hey gents, I just found this forum so I thought I'd check in and offer an intro. Im a gunsmith and D.O.E. advanced armorer so I would be glad to answer questions or just be of help. This looks like a great forum and I look forward to reading your posts an contributing both. |

I dont know if they used them in the past but they didn't while I was there. From the few that I've seen myself they never worked all the bugs out of them. Just not a reliable gun. I think it has something to do with the bolt wieght to gas flow ratio. They couldn't get it quite right. |
Interesting. I wonder if one could be made to run with the addition of something like an LMT enhanced BC? I mean, a lot of advances have been made making shorty ARs work well in the last few years. There was a post here not long ago with a 'blueprint' for the FSB. They are butt-ugly, but very interesting and potentially useful weapons. If I were going to have a 9mm AR at all, I think I'd be forced to SBR it and make a clone. ERBR strikes again... |
Interesting, is there potentially any non-sensitive documentation that remains? Manuals, etc? What did they replace the system with? |
i've been trying to figure out what to search for for since 5:30 this morning ![]() ETA - I'll upload the pics once I can get the archive to work - standby archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=15&t=339846 ^ pictures don't work anymore, I contacted the poster with the pictures so hopefully he can send me some. |
Sorry but dont ask. |
Why not? We can probably get that info through FOIA, but IIRC, the DOE went to HK and are testing some Ruger SMGs. How is this restricted info? I mean, we know what the friggin SEALs are using for the most part - how is DOE weaponry that special? I mean, really. Sounds like a 'If I told you I'd have to kill you' cop out. Please prove me wrong. I understand restricted information, but come on - there are lots of civvy armorers who do work for the .gov with full websites, and you can't tell us what the weapon was replaced with? I can understand your reticence, but 'Sorry but don't ask' just makes me ask these questions. |
It must have been a different section of the DOE. Those little 9mm's were not used by my group. I have no idea what part of the DOE used those. My section, with what they dealt with, is restricted info. I honestly can't tell the current weapons of my section to you without spending time in "club Fed". |
