Guys, I just picked my BFI (Bushmaster) AHF M16A1 clone, and I was hoping someone could help me ID my rifle's upper, and barrel. The upper is marked with a P M on the carry handle, and on the front site base she has a 8 R and a picture of a crown. The barrel isn't marked anywhere else. Also, the barrel appears to be chome lined with a chome bore, but she doesn't have the CMP markings anywhere ? Thank, 1981 |

I asked a similar question just the other day. One of the guys here provided a list of most, if not all, of the upper receiver codes. The list said that the P on your receiver means that the machining was done by Capco and the M means that the forging was produced by Martin Marietta. Can't help you with the barrel. -Bob |
Pure guesswork, but the barrel may be an old Bushmaster piece. Every Bushie barrel I own, w/th oldest being 20+ years old and the newest about 1 1/2 yrears old, has a front sight base w/the crown on it; and Bushie barrels made prior to their govt. contract around 1990 were unmarked. At least mine is unmarked. On the other hand, Bushie didn't start chrome lining their barrels until about the time of that govt contract, so far as I know; but I do not claim any expertise in the matter. |

I guess the barrel is Bushmaster. The whole rifle was made by BFI (Bushmaster) for the American Historical Foundation in May of 1991. I didn't know that Bushmaster ever made A1 barrels ? I think it's chome lined as the chamber and bore look the same as my other ARs... A real interesting part of my A1 clone is the receiver!!! It's marked "BFI XM 15ES2" and it's A1 spec 1981 |
I suspect he's joking. Bushie is still using crown marked sight bases; and I have seen the crown on one or two other brand barrels over the years. |
