Have had many questions on my 607 and retro builds. Thanks in advance for all the help so far. What is the proper or usable length for cut down Triangle 607 handguards ? They are for a standard 10" Barrel shorty. I just received a set from Model 1 sales and they are 6-1/4 (6.25) inches long without caps. They seem like they may be short, just by visual inspection. When I called and asked Mod 1 about the length I was told they should be 6.25 inches. BTW they farm out the handguards to an outside person for cutting. They say they have had no issues with them being 6.25" Does anyone know the proper length? Can anyone tell me the length of there Model 1 607 guards or had any problems with length? Thanks to all, Hal |

I cut mine to 6 3/8", but that's just because the other ones I bought years ago were that length...and they fit the aftermarket triangular rear cap... But I assemble them on the [HBAR] barrel first, mark the barrel, and then shorten it to fit the handguards... It's ass-backwards, but I make everything a custom fit... If they're a bit long, I can always shorten them more...but I don't have a handguard lengthener if they're too short to start with... |

I took a measurment from the ones I made and they are about 1/16 of an inch shorter than postino's. Yours should be fine at 6.5 inches. They are a real bear to get on if they are much longer. You almost have to take the barrel assembly apart to assemble the handguards. |

Thanks very much guys. It seems from all indications that my set from Mod 1 is just a hair short. Nothing will drive you crazy like a pair of loose guards. My measurement of my other CAR barrel shows 6-3/8's as the best fit. Easy enough I'll just cut another set if need be. Thanks again for the specs. It's been a big help. This forum really is full of some generous folks. Cheers, Hal |

postino The pin you mentioned makes sense. Mod 1 said they could not cut me a set at 6-3/8's. I gather they they just didn't want too. Thats fine I'll just cut my own. What are you using to cut the guards? Ban saw, Chop saw, width blade? Sorry for all the questions but what is the shorty stock for? I wanted to cut down an A1 stock just like that since the 607 stocks are so rare, but couldn't figure out what to cap the but-plate with. Are you using a CAR length tube with that stock? Hal |

I cut ~2 3/4" off the A1 buttstock with a power bandsaw, fitted with a platen, and clamped in a vise. Then faced the end off on my belt sander. The cut is parallel with the old rubber buttplate. I still need to drill a 1/2" hole through the stock 1" down from the buffer centerline. This is just a "looker"; it'll go on a rifle buffer tube with a 1/2" rod underneath, mimicking the 607 telescoping assembly, but it won't telescope. I just like the extended look of the shortened stock, with the rod underneath. I cut the handguards down in a mitre box with a hand hacksaw. I managed to hit the pins/rivets/whatever they are with the saw, and they are *hard*. Both the stock & the handguards needed shims to position them at the right angle while cutting to make everything square. I plan on making my own aluminum buttplate, again mimicking the 607, but non functional. Unless maybe I can find a rejected/mistake repro 607 buttplate that someone has no further use for... |
I *did*! That's why i like the look! But Tom's stock is on my closet queen; only to be seen (and handled) by me, no one else! These others I can hand around without worrying about some moron dropping it...
